South Korea: Bollywood’s Future Market?

not sure by film like gandhi...u mean autobiographies of great people??

I am talking in terms of style and format. I am not saying musicals don't sell; witness Disney animations which are mostly musicals. But if you want to sell Bollywood films to non-South Asian audiences, then Bollywood fims must adopt Hollywood style presentation.

Ghandi is a good example of an India-themed movie that is well-received by non-Indian audiences.

Please point out the movie that took a month to make.
Pre-production + production(shooting) + post production could take a year, but the actual production doesn't have to.

Pre production is only planning. Never heard of a movie that would be finished in a month (shooting) except those low budget euro artistic crap movies.
but i guess shooting girls dancing doesnt require a lot of repeating....

i m sure the film makers will make the film adaptable enough...they want money afterall...but making film hollywood style is debatable..i mean we already have a hollywood..i support more of a native style which can reach the audience there..ive personally watched a few movies and liked them...so i supposed the tastes of the people would be more or less similar....its just the korean flavour they must add with the native style

The French are proud people, but even they shoot movies in English if they want to sell overseas.

thats because music and dance are part of subcontinent from hundreds of centuries...unlike europeans which imported anything and everything in their culture

no buddy, it's more like the target audience doesnt manage the attention span that is required if you want to understand anything apart from music and dancing.

Colors in movement dude, that's what keeps infants/toddlers busy/entertained.

Hundreds of centuries? You know the amount of time that is? Silly little man....

Why would Koreans want to see Bollywood movies when they themselves make some good movies?

Few examples which can beat Bollywood down easily.

My Way
War of arrows
Yellow sea
The Frontline
No Mercy
Once upon a time
Once upon a time in Seoul
Blood rain
Treeless mountain

And even for dirty minds, Korean movies are much better ;)

Green Chair is an example.

ofcourse...hundreds of centuries...genesis of indian music started with sama veda which is 3000 years old...not to mention other asian music styles like persian and arabic
@topic so why would you think hollywood movies are also blockbusters in india like anywhere else in the world????

Our movies are themed around escapism. The target is primarly the underclass who, for a few hours, get to experience a life they will never live. It is a heroin user chasing their high. A rational person with an iota of intelligence will realize you can't compare Hollywood to Bollywood.

Indian Film Industry has many segments - Malayalam Movies, Tamil Movies, Kannada Movies, Telegu Movies, Punjabi Movies, Bengali Movies, Bhojpuri Movies, Marathi Movies, Gujarati Movies, Oriya Movies, Hindi Movies.

Of this only Hindi Movies are made for a Pan India audience.

Of this only a limited number of Hindi Movies are ever exported and are viewed by audiences in Pakistan, Middle East, South korea etc.

The real reason is Indian Movies do not have a Global distribution channel. This distribution channel then becomes a route for Audience Feedback and movies slowly evolve to Global taste.

Current distribution channel is limited to Middle east and countries with significant Indian presence. Feedback from there has gone into improving the Hindi Movie content.

Its only recently Hindi Film Industry has consolidated to become Large Production House based centers. They have tied up with Hollywood distribution network and will be distributing movies globally. When the feedback network grows stronger, the Industry will adapt to cater to Global audience. This is an evolutionary process and should take around 10-20 years.

Gandhi was a Hollywood production. But because it was about 'Gandhi' most of the professional Indian actors who acted in it worked for free. The Huge masses you see in the movie also worked for free. Gandhi can never be remade today due to Budgetary reasons.

What I am asking is why Bollywood cannot make a movie like Gandhi. Gandhi shows that it is possible to make an Indian themed movie with a global reach. But Bollywood producers must figure out how to do that themselves.
