South Asia Growth in 2010

bad monsoon ...

Even 5% is too hard for Pakistan

India is not doing better also in this regard. South Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have to get over such dependency on a perfect monsoon. Not too much(floods) in some area or too little(droughts).

Most developed countries have got over such dependency on rains except for extreme conditions. Even China doesnt go into doldrums with/without rain through proper water management capabilities via canals, storage etc.

Perhaps one of the requirement to become a developed country(or on its path) is to get over dependency on perfect rainfall.

Monsoon and flood is not a major problem in BD anymore as we switched our major crops in Winter season. Thanks to the new variety of crops, irrigation and above all World bank(the only advice by world bank did some good to BD).

I dont know. Have seen in India too many scenes on TV of that guy standing on top of the roof with water all around him or women walking for miles and miles for water on parched earth. And this happens almost every year. Its very disgusting why nothing is planned to overcome this when the cycle repeats itself ever so often. This is just so rare in developed countries barring a cyclone or something. India is blessed to have so much rain. Its such a waste to see most of it just drain away and all the time load shedding and water tankers even in cities.

Sri Lanka Economy will become strong in 2010.

Sri Lanka continually receiving direct investments from China, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN Member countries.

Sri Lanka provides major sea routes connecting Africa, Middle East, South Asia and East Asia with Europe and chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Malacca.

Sri Lanka will have Singapore style Economic & Security plans.

Sri Lanka will become one of the most developed country of South Asia in 2020.

India GDP growth for this year was 6.5%.

By 2012 THE INDIANs are aiming at 9% again.

6.5% is the 2nd fastest of all top 20 GDP nations

havent they been 2ish in top 20 gdp for a while?(even before recession)

India has the economic means and technical knowledge to get rid of much of its poverty. But, Indian politicians and bureaucrats seem not in a hurry to release the poors from the shackles of poverty. It is same throughout the South Asian countries. Govt people like prestige projects that draw attention of the newspapermen, and at the same time make their pockets fat.

All these countries need courageous and visionery politicians to uplift the living standard of the ordinary people. This is what the development of a country is for.

Salam. Positive or negative it all depends upon the nature of a thread. Do not see only my negative posts, there are more things in other posts. But, thanks for the compliment.
