What's new

Sophistication of Indian tech is now sufficient to build a Rafale

India cannot make a Rafale as of now. It's that simple.
If a USA company doing r&d work situated in bangalore with Indian workforce can write and sell program for sukhoi mki then its not as simple as that ..we seriously lag in management of our resources

. .
The MKI is the top-end of the IAF's fleet, it is just not feasible to have an additional 200 (how many Rafales will be ordered) of them in lieu of the Rafale. Many don't seem to understand that the MKI is probably second only to the F-22 to maintain and fly- the cost per flight hour is ENORMOUS (in excess of $25,000 IIRC) whilst the Rafale is cheaper to both fly and maintain as a result of the French/Western design ethos.

The MKI is a great plane but it needs an able sidekick and the Rafale fits the bill and much more.

Not to mention the need to get away from as much Russian kit as possible, their after sales performance has been abysmal across the board.

Then go for Single engine to Aircraft to fill in much needed flying hours, why go for another Twin Engine???

Tejas is good agst F-16 and J-10A of china (J-10B (due to IIR seekars) can be looked after by SU-MKI).

.
Our industry needs more evolution and, critically, more de-regulation. We have the tech but in terms of having a sufficiently big military industrial complex, we need more progress. Give us 30 years and we'll get there. Till then we'll have to opt for some foreign presence.
The Rafale deal will certainly act as a catalyst along with the new deregulations norms adopted by the GoI, India can be a big player within 15-20 years no doubt.

The Rafale purchase will in NO WAY affect the LCA's orders, in fact the LCA will compliment the Rafale very nicely. The Rafale was picked after meeting the IAF's specific technical criteria.

That part can be take care of with the combination of SU-MKI + Tejas. Why need Rafale???

This is the main part which people fails to understand.

While the needs & requirements of Indian military & industrial complexes will be best decided by the Military, MoD,
MoF and GoI as a whole...it is always amusing to see armchair generals shouting suggestions to change/ditch
deals which are worth more than most countries' entire defence budgets.

I see so many Indian posters who are fan boys of Dassault Rafale.

This shows they have no confidence in their own engineers and sientists. Which is really sad to see.

Aerospace industry and capacity of India is now among the best.

So do not waste money on buying 100s of Dassault Rafales. By a squadran or two.

Save the hard earned billions and build your own.

Sure it may take a bit of time, but it will be yours.

And above all, it will give high tech jobs to 1000s of Indians instead of exporting them to EU>

i'm confused. are you saying buy a few dozen Rafales and then copy the tech like China???
since when can India make the Snecma 88 and RBE2 AESA radar??? the avionics and SPECTRA???

this isn't how it works.

Because, as I've said, the MKI is too expensive to cover all the tasks that would be assigned to the Rafale (the "ground pounder") and the LCA simply isn't up to the standard of the Rafale, there is a very real need for a medium weight fighter, hence the MMRCA. Why do you think the IAF started this process in the first place? They knew both the MKI and LCA options were available.

And you guys do realise that the cost of the latest tranche of MKIs the IAF is getting (the "Super" standard) are almost identical to that of the Rafale? So the MKI is not cheaper to buy upfront nor maintain throughout its life (in fact it is about 3-4 times more expensive over the course of its life as compared to the Rafale).

As if the IAF/MoD would just throw $16 BILLION DOLLARS down the drain with no thought given.

.
It is the MANDATORY figure as per the MMRCA's original RFPs so is guaranteed. I'm sorry but you have created this thread with obviously little understanding of the MMRCA deal and thus it makes this entire thread moot.

you my brother remind me of

the guy who believes that during Christmas

The store says "buy one get one free"

or

The store says "Everything 50% off"

Get this "free" and that "free".

hahah

.
This is the point sir!!! You already have a elephant under your One foot why do you want another elephant under your other foot also?????????
Because the Rafale is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to maintain than the MKI whilst being almost as capable in some regards and superior in others. So for the price you are getting a hell of a package not to mention the industrial benefits the deal will bring as a whole.

The MMRCA/Rafale deal is more than justified..
