Son Of Arjun Frightens Indians

You expalined it. Could you also tell me what were the specs the Army gave to DRDO? Because the weight seems to be the only disadvantage that has the army not opting for more. I am curious as to why the army asked for a 60 ton tank when they knew their existing infrastructure could not support its quick deployment. Or why the DRDO made a 60 ton tank when the army clearly stated otherwise. I totally understand the need to research the new tank, thats always a good step.

Main thing, they wanted 60Ton to counter the M1A1 that was offered to you by US.

But the PA rejected M1A1 and then IA's interest is lost.

if you have gone with M1A1, you would have seen arjun long back ..

you need to take a beast with a beast..

That actually makes no sense. What did the Russians develop to counter the M1A2? and I have never come across any news that Pakistan was offerred M1A1.

Hey force, you will really have to dig out the data from old issues of BR or other forums. I remember reading about the evolution of the Arjun on quite a few sites.

Surely not heavier tanks. Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armour for one.
"The effectiveness of Kontakt-5 ERA was confirmed by tests run by the German Bundeswehr and the US Army. The Germans tested the K-5, mounted on older T-72 tanks, and in the US, Jane's IDR's Pentagon correspondent Leland Ness confirmed that "When fitted to T-72 tanks, the 'heavy' ERA made them immune to the depleted uranium penetrators of M829 APFSDS, fired by the 120 mm guns of the US M1 Abrams tanks, which were among the most formidable tank gun projectiles at the time." I wish I could... All I got addicted to was this site .. and that too because of some shockingly stupid replies in my early days.

No mention of weight requirement to compete with the M1.

. .
It was offered but failed during field tests that's why Pakistan went for its own tank :D

.
Was it a top secret field test? Is there anything I can read about it in the form of an article?

that is what I said force - the ruskies developed better explosive armour to defeat the main armament of the M1A1. they did not go for heavier tanks, it is against their philosophy for armoured warfare.

Okay. So in the 1980 India's requirements were to compete with a 60 ton Abrams. By what year did they find out that Pakistan was not getting the Abrams? I dont want to beat around the bush but I just want to know who was at fault here. If the army requirements changed why was the DRDO not told about the new requirements? or was it the other way around. Something is just not right here. 28 years of RnD and the new Tank will be a different beast altogether. Different Chassis, different engine. The positive is definitely the experience and fire control systems.

That was not a top secret Field test..Instead it is most published Field test in the history of pakistan...After watching this field test only your then president Zia-ul-haq was returning and got killed in an air accident...
Its surprising you dont know about this...:undecided:

If Arjun is to be compared with T90 it must be sent to a third country for evaluation with similar weather conditions. Or a cross evaluation by Indians and Russians for the results to be credit worthy.
