Some Pakistani industries view India trade with alarm.

any idea of cement prices in india?
:)

Karan answered you. BTW not only cement, there are many other things we need. Although you may not like it :) but one thing
we need is sea sand and soil, which we were importing from Pakistan. These are needed for skyscraper buildings. Anyway, this
was banned by Pakistan since they thought it was destroying the environment.

okay, so according to that, if duties are 10% or less, its quite profitable...

it will become even more profitable when dollar rises against PKR...

6USD is around 530PKR. A 50kg bag in pakistan has a retail price of 380PKR or so. 390 is for the best quality...

So if ur telling me the prices in india correctly, its quite profitable.

Yes it would be profitable for both countries. Here is the latest report from Pakistan's cement industry.Their exports overall remain stagnant but to India surges 53%. Beleive me India can be the largest market for Pakistani cement.

Cement exports drop, but sales to India surge

Just imagine if trade is liberalized.

One of the most major import we can have from Pakistan is cement and beleive me we need cement worth billions.

Whenever you have time go through this interview of our former trade minister done by a Pakistani journalist. You will know what mainly holds trade down and India is no way cheating. He clearly states the potential of trade
between us is 10 billion.

You can't import cement from any where else and it is a fact.... Pakistan's cement is cheapest.
While we can produce every thing better... what you wish to export to us.

Still i don't reject the idea of trade.. what i reject is the idea of sneaking through backdoors, cheating and stealing...i.e. smuggling, transit aid, bribing corrupt govt. to destroy local industry etc. etc.

Journalists my foot.. they have their objectives and they have no understanding of economics or geopolitics.

offcourse , your highness, they are dumb idiots compared to you. you are a PHD in economics and politics. they are no match for you...

India CAN import cement from china, its cheaper in china than in even pakistan. vietnam, thailand and a few other countries also produce cheap cement but due to greater distance, it is not as cheap as pakistan and china..

and btw all trade is being legally done..ask anyone who is actually in the business instead of just reading random people's comments on youtube and facebook and other websites..

many pharmaceuticals companies are importing products from india and marketing them here in pakistan. That is how trade is happening. apart from that there are other small trading companies who just simply buy products from indian companies and get them in paksitan and distribute...

As i said Pakistan cement is priced very low, while its quality is best.

Yes indeed journalist have no idea... what to ask and while all such interviews and reports are paid propaganda.

Bottom line is India is dying to steel Pakistan market unfairly and the name of the game is MFN.

Pakistan must protect her national/indigenous industries. So what if Pakistan is doing what is in her interests.
I don't know why Indian media is so "shocked" about Pakistan acting in self-defense.

Yes, our pharma traders had been importing raw material from India because Indian suppliers under invoice and even change the name of raw material in papers.
In turn Pakistan govt. lost revenue, while Indians beat other potential suppliers by unfair pricing.

Still the trade was good as long it was limited to raw materials and the pharma industry was still working but now once again... India is using its resources in Pakistan's parliament to have legislation which allow unfair advantage to indian finished medicen over local produce.
This would kill Pakistan's pharma industry and this is the most immediate target of unfair business practices of India.

I don't think a trade between India and Pakistan will ever work for Pakistan. The reason is the difference in mentality of Pakistanis and Indians. Let me share my personal experience with you in this regard. Even though I am Pakistani born, I have been living in the USA for last 35 + years, mostly in New York area.

Here in New York we have a neighbourhood of Desis called JACKSON HEIGHTS area. At any given time, day or night you could go to an Indian Store in Jackson Heights area and find them full of Pakistani people / customers. I will give anyone a thousand dollars to go to a Pakistani store and find me one INDIAN customer in a Pakistani Store. An Indian Hindu would drive 50 miles to an Indian store then to buy same groceries from a Pakistani store next door to his house.

I have never understood the reason for this prejudice and bigotry. If there is open trade between Pakistan and India, Pakistanis will buy the Indian goods without a single thought but an Indian Hindu would rather die than to buy Pakistani product. Maybe some of our illustrious Indian FRIENDS can shed some light on this Phenomenon.

Peace.

Dude in your earlier posts you were complaining that Pakistan would beat every other nation if India is removed from its neighbourhood. However from your post it seems that instead of looking forwards to oppurtunity of trade, you want your ego to
beleive that India somehow is dependent on Pakistan.

Today India produces 300 MT of cement far far ahead than 30 MT of Pakistan. Its because of our economic growth we need
more cement than our current production capablities. But instead of taking advantage of trade, you feel India is dependent on you then its fine. We have been importing cement from Indonesia and we'll continue with that. We are not the ones clocking 2%
GDP growth.

As i said you are not a victim of geography but of policies and mindset.

You assumption is quite right if you are talking for value added products, but not for other exports like raw materials. For value
products it is Pakistan that has to move forward and make the Indian public aware of its products and benefits. As far as i know
there are no such products from Pakistan that i have heard about till now.

Why does Pakistani youth want Indian bikes. Its just for the fact the India has a R&D in the sector along with worldwide product sell. When Pakistanis see they dont have such things back home they would prefer India.Similarly Pakistan will have to come
up with a product that is far far ahead than Indian ,thus compelling the public to go for it.

First reciprocate with a MFN status and the removal of non trade barriers will come off when Pakistan does the same.
Let me clear a big misconception about MFN which is misunderstood by media and common joe altogather. The theory of MFN in world trade is the threashold for application of duties and tarrifs and thus building barriers. For example if a country say A has declared country B as MFN and the terrif rate that A charges on B's imports is 60% then in WTO, country A has the liberty to not allow anyother country to pay a lesser terrif than MFN. So if India has declared Pakistan as MFN, it does not mean that India has done it in love of Pakistan. It is to their advantage. And thus it is not necessary that Pakistan should also declare India as MFN because Pakistan may have a lower terrif structure for India and higher for another country say Namibia for example. That would mean that Pakistan's benifit will be to declare Namibia as MFN not India. I hope this clears up some doubts.

Saving your industry from competition is not nurturing. Even in India this kind of doubts did exist before 1991. But look at us. We have survived the global competition and we are overtaking big companies in other countries. I am not saying that our local industry has not affected. But in long term we are successful. In my opinion making market more competitive and customer friendly do good for the economy.

Thanks for the informative post but let me see how well you know the trade or framework between India and Pakistan. There was no doubt. It helps to think why China and Pakistan have declared each other MFN then and this contradicts your Namibia logic!

1. India has no barriers of trade specific to Pakistan.
2. Pakistan has non trade and trade barriers directed specifically to India.
3. Pakistan operates a positive list whereas India has a specific negative list applicable to all countries including Pakistan.
4. India is a signatory to SAFTA and so is Pakistan
5. India has implemented SAFTA but Pakistan is yet to reciprocate.
6. India has declared Pakistan as MFN but Pakistan is yet to do it.
7. Over 0.5 trillion dollars of trade is done between India and rest of the world but India Pakistan trade is stuck at 2 billion dollars.
