True;only thing is that by 65,it was all but gone, all of it..............due to a plethora of stupid policies taken by our then ruling figures.Actually,at that time,Pakistan was doing better at economic front than India!!
It might come as a surprise to some but that's exactly what had happened at that time, again due to pacifist politicians.Heck,at one point, there were some serious talks of disbanding the armed forces altogether!!Luckily, the Chinese came to our rescue in 62,in a way,the humiliation was a blessing in disguise if you look at it.
Anyway, the thing is,at that time,Pakistan Army, especially the infantry and artillery arms, was much better equipped and better trained as well compared to their Indian counterparts,it was far more mobile and above all,by that this time,Pakistan Army had developed solid combined arms doctrine on account of their newly formed mechanised infantry forces. But such things were completely missing in the then Indian Army!!Besides, their moral was also at a much higher level due to their somewhat successful operations in the earlier months of the same year,in the Rann of Kutch area.
Oh,that happened much later. Before 65 (and after as well),you were like the favourite child of both US and UK,(actually, the analysts in the US government had predicted that Pakistan as a naion, had a much better chance of survival than had India) on account of your stance against communism!!That's Cold War for you by the way.
Again, that happened much later.Besides, the sole point of disagreement is the figure you quoted, that you had fended off an enemy 8 times larger than yourself, which frankly, is pure baloney, pardon me for being blunt here..............actually,on almost every counts, your forces were ahead of that of India, except the numbers of infantry and even then, the advantage was more like just 2 to 1 in India's favour, and even that is a gross overstatement because, the most well trained infantry formations, those being 8 odd mountain divisions (along with 2 other infantry formations kept in reserve) never joined the war, since they had been deployed along the LAC.................the wounds of 62 were still very fresh after all.
What is there to believe??At most, the Indian Armed forces may be just 2 times of size to that of yours (and that too, while counting the forces reserved for the northern front),but many of you guys tend to blow it out of all proportions just to sound bad ***!!
