so my renaissance alter ego nears completion

I told you before a history / art student saw me at an event in La Spezia and asked me if she can use me as a reference model for a comic she makes. The comic will take place in 15th century italy in Fireze. She made some reference pics of me and also i send her some reference shots later on. She send me the current status and i must say she comes really close to me.

Actually she has two versions.

I think she will be done in next days.

This is really cool for me because i do Reenactment and play two roles in my cities group. A roman pretorian guard and a occicer from the republic of Pisa.

what? sorry i dont get it.

She made pics from my face, fromt, from right and left. Then later on messaged me so i send her additional pics.

I like both versions but she tends to version two because she says version 1. did not match me 100% .

btw i have a question, that could help my in my reenactment. Maybe you can help me. As i said i play a guard officer of the republic of pisa during renaissance. my friends and i wear original uniforms, style, weapons ect at historical events here in lucca. during this time the italian republics dominated with trade and ships in the mediterraneans. but the ottoman empire was the leading military power in the eastern med.

since there was contacts i wonder how? how would we talk to them? did they have translators? or was a lingua franca used?

I can't get in to so deep about it but my view is that Italians used "lingua Ottomana" speakers since Ottomans were dominators of that era and turned Mediterrenean Sea into a Turkish lake. It's has been always the same, dominant power's language is spoken and learnt.

Its normal Italians had to use translators to contact with Ottomans as they are the trading side on the Mediterrenean. I never meant they had to learn Ottoman Turkish since they were not under direct rule. But under Ottoman rule, normally people might learnt it to make the life easier for them. Still, nobody has been forced to do it. Hope this time you stop being a smartass.

Doesn't everybody use translators to talk with other people in a foreign language ? It is most likely that Ottomans learned Italian as it was the premiere language in trade deals in the Mediteranean ,plus the Renaissance "thingy".Italian states were in fashion,so to speak.

Do you believe Ottomans gave a shit about premier language and fashion when they were at golden age? Specially when Mediterrenean was a Turkish lake? It was Italians who had to deal and pay for using trade routes in safe. Damn.. wasting my time

Not quite right since italian influence sphere was the entire mediterranean while the ottomans only ruled in the eastern part. The republic of venice for example build up a fleet of war ships that did beat the ottomans again and again but also delivered good and so on.

But i just checked it. The words "lingua franca" even come from that time.
