Six new nuclear attack submarines

.
Now I'm confused...6 SSBN + 6 SSN? That can't be the case. Plus 6 SSBNs (only) that doesn't seem right too!

4 SSBN's (Arihant Class) & 6 SSN's - That's what the Cabinet committee on security (CCS) has approved till date - rest are still being planned like those 10,000 tonne SSBN's - no approval from the government yet.

.
They haven't been able to make a fighter acceptable to their own air force,
and they want to make a boomer...which is far more complex than an aircraft.

Wish them good luck though....

Yes but we did make a Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine or SSBN which is very well acceptable to our Navy.

I think Arihant class is only two. Technically these were limited designs because they were the 1st nuke subs to be built. As they are fielded and tested and the systems prove reliable, the larger SSBNs will role out. I'm sure that at least the 1st 4 will be SSBNs and not SSNs.

You realize, we already have a boomer right?

here we are talking about SSN, which is an nuclear power attack submarine.

BTW, there is some report that pakistan navy is developing SSBN, they don't even manufacture bike engine. now they are trying to manufacture a SSBN... good luck with that :pakistan:

SSN's are in the design stage - Arihant class already under production, so in all likely hood Arihant program would be through by the time SSN's go on the floor.

While India has traditionally shied from commenting on its nuclear fleet, the Navy said it was confident of executing the order with a brand new design.
NEW DELHI: In a rare, official comment on the Indian nuclear attack submarine project, Vice-Chief-Admiral P Murugesan, told ET that work had started on a new class of vessels after the government go-ahead two months back and the target was to shorten the development time to under 15 years. "The government has given approvals for six new SSNs ( nuclear attack submarines) earlier this year. We have started the work, but it's still at the pento-paper stage," Murugesan told ET.

While India has traditionally shied from commenting on its nuclear fleet, the Navy said it was confident of executing the order with a brand new design.

Murugesan expressed confidence in the abilities of the Navy's submarine design bureau to come out with a new class of vessels in less than 15 years. "These things take time, but we will be able to improve on the timelines that the pioneers (nations) have set, which typically took over 15 years for such a project."

What will be the displacement of these SSNs?

Too low for a professional not to figure out that India has already developed a SSBN which is undergoing sea trials.

You know SSBN?
