Singapore already has 196 Leopard 2SG. It buys them for the same reasons other states do: for their defence. Similarly sized Bahrain has 180 M60A3s, for example. Plus, Singapore is strategically located near the Strait of Malacca.Singapore wants to buy tanks? for what?

Do you really think Singapore( no matter how advanced its military) can win a full scale war with its potential enemies without support from a super power?The tanks are to occupy a large area to gain strategic depth in the event of a full blown war.
