Singapore Armed Forces

Singapore has very close history with Indonesia, Singapore first President is from Indonesia, West Sumatra (Minang Kabau ethnic) descent. Malaysia first President is also from Minang Kabau descent. Minang Kabau people in Indonesia is also well known as good at politics and business even though the population is small compare to other ethnic.

Yusof bin Ishak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yusof was of Minangkabau descent from his father's side while his mother was a Malay from the Langkat region in Indonesia.[1] His brother, Aziz Ishak, was a Malayan journalist and freedom fighter.

I believe Lee Kuan Yew is also from Indonesia, his Malay language is closer to Indonesian than Malaysian as I heard from his speech. Some people believe that he and his family actually comes from Java.

very interesting.

Minang Kabu people has a story, its very similiar story of Vietnamese people.

The name Minangkabau is thought to be a conjunction of two words, minang ("victorious") and kabau ("buffalo"). There is a legend that the name is derived from a territorial dispute between the Minangkabau and a neighbouring prince. To avoid a battle, the local people proposed a fight to the death between two water buffalo to settle the dispute. The prince agreed and produced the largest, meanest, most aggressive buffalo. The Minangkabau produced a hungry baby buffalo with its small horns ground to be as sharp as knives. Seeing the adult buffalo across the field, the baby ran forward, hoping for milk. The big buffalo saw no threat in the baby buffalo and paid no attention to it, looking around for a worthy opponent. But when the baby thrust his head under the big bull's belly, looking for an udder, the sharpened horns punctured and killed the bull, and the Minangkabau won the contest and the dispute.

Winning Buffalo (competition) is more precise  Minang people are famous to make a sentence become shorter that it should be, so we have to put "competition" word on it

our story is same , it was related to Chinese but I think there is rumor or folktale from long time ago in the past.

Story said:

Chinese Envoy has been brought to Vietnam a very big, very strong fighting buffalo, to challenge our buffalo to fighting. The king sent our people to find every where in country the fighting buffalo, but didn't found any good buffalo for fighting.

One official in Kingdom court, his name was Quynh. Quynh heard a story he ran immediately before the king, say that there is available a buffalo for fighting.

By the day of competition chinese envoyer let his fighting buffalo to go in. The buffalo is huge, like monster, dragon eyes, standing aggressively for playing horn to welcome enemy.

Then, our official ( Quynh ) let a baby calf buffalo to go out. Note the baby buffalo was separated from mother buffalo during the night, thirsty to look around to see mother buffalo. Baby buffalo misunderstood that Chinese buffalo is his mother he ran fast and attacked on breast and stomach of chinese buffalo for milk.

Chinese fighting Buffalo was very discomfort, and ran back far away. So chinese buffalo was loser in this competition.

Well,It's a truth obiviously. But that's not what I want to say.If you don't really use or plan to use something, then that thing can't be called as very useful.

Our government keep using WW2 Japanese occupation to justify the scandalous defence budget. In reality our government real target is Malaysia, and probably to somehow guard the volatile Indonesia. That cannot be say out. Also everyday, we got bombarded with Japanese occupation, but meanwhile, our government like Japan and neutralize the negative image of Japan history in whatever means.

Coward white man surrender to Japan after fighting around 50 days.

Young Lee Kuan Yew was a Japanese collaborator (far right). After the war, British groom him to take over Singapore. Below are likely to be peranakan Chinese who form the Singapore upper class. They are completely anglicize and speak no mandarin.

You may ask why Kuan Yew who worked for the Japs? The reason is there was no better alternatives. The strongest grassroot power then was the communist MCP. Then Singapore Chinese community was very left leaning and Chinese is a dominant language not like today.

Does Singapore see yourself in any kind of "camp" as far as Asia goes? Most of you originally come from China but I know your relationship with China is not always good. But would this lead you into the US/Japan/India/Australia camp, especially since Malaysia also seems to be becoming a part of it?

Mr. Lee is wise man. Singapore will take a position of Hongkong in future.

The peranakan has successfully purge the young people off their China sentiment. Also PRC SE Asia policy make the SE Asian Chinese get shitt. For example, PRC support Vietnam and Cambodia commie and the later, especially, killed a lot of Chinese

The conduct of PRC during the cold war has convince most in the elite class to do away with China patriotism and to root ourselves as patriotic citizen in SE Asia.

But with emerging PRC today, things may reverse.

Our military air transport is number one in SE Asia. We have C130, Chinooks and Super Puma.

We even have aerial refueling since very very long time ago, something China did not have until recently.
