Culture Day celebrated across Sindh

KARACHI: The colorful activities including rallies were organized Saturday across the province to mark Sindh Culture Day, which has become an annual festival after celebrating Sindhi Topi (cap) and Ajrak Day last year.

The colorful ceremonies were held in Karachi and other towns & cities of the province to mark the Sindh Culture Day with renewed commitment and zeal.

A report from Kot Ghulam Muhammad town of district Mirpur Khas said a colorful ceremony was organized at government girls high school wherein the teachers and students wore Ajrak. The students presented tableaus highlighting the 5000-year old civilization of Sindh.

A rally was taken out in the town which after marching through different roads ended at national press club.

The participants of rally wore Sindhi caps and Ajrak. The Bright Public Future School and government boys primary school too organized functions to celebrate Sindh Culture Day. In Sehwan, a number of rallies were taken out to mark the Culture Day.

I was an amazing event but i am disappointed that some usual culprits like MQM and JS tried to politicize the events and spoiled the fun for average peace loving law abiding citizen. Sindhi hold a special place, value and respect in history of Pakistan because they reciprocated the same gesture of hospitality towards Muslim brethren which the early adopters of Islam did in Medina 1400 years ago.

Only two of such examples in whole of Islamic history!

The Sindh Cultural Day had been celebrated today (Saturday) with great passion and zest across the province. The people of Sindh swiftly came out of the Eidul Azha festivity and were seen busy in purchasing traditional Sindhi clothes, caps and Ajraks while the female shoppers preferred to buy ‘Sucee’, dress made of Ajrak, hand made Gajj, Tano and Jhimee Poti.

All political parties of the province, including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Jeay Sindh Tehreek, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Sindh National Front, Sindh United Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement have also celebrated the day.

The day marked with various activities such as rallies, corner meetings, musical nights, Mach Kachharees (folk gatherings) and Sufi musical nights.

Sindhi Topi: These simple yet multifaceted arithmetical divisions highlighted with hand-stitched mirrors Sindhi caps are traditional and stylish. Since these are handmade, no two pieces will be exactly alike adding to the exclusivity and charm of these hand-embroidered articles. Sizes, colour, shades and patterns may vary slightly from piece to piece because of the hand-made element.

Ajrak: The true origin of the word ‘Ajrak’ is unknown. In Arabic, Ajrak means blue or indigo (indigo is a tree, whose leaves drop blue colour, which is dominantly used in Ajrak).

Sindh celebrates Sindh Culture Day

KARACHI: Sindh is celebrating the ‘Sindhi Topi Day’ or Sindh Culture Day today (Saturday) with a colourful display of culture on the streets of the province.
Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has announced a provisional holiday on this occasion.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has also announced its support for the Sindh Culture Day and will be celebrating at the party’s headquarters, Nine Zero, reports Express 24/7 correspondent Shehryar Mirza. Awami National Party (ANP) will also be celebrating the day.
According to Mirza, a rally has been organised in Karachi which will be taken out from Regal Chowk and will go all the way to the Press Club, where Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) representatives will be speaking to the media.
Different cultural exhibitions are taking place across the city and Sindh Chief Minister will also be inaugurating the official Sindh encyclopedia.
The Sindhi Cap is regarded as one of the most essential parts of the Sindhi culture and is usually offered to guests, along with a traditional Sindhi Ajrak, as a token of respect.
