i am not sure how many of us are on the go and like to surf the internet through their cell phones, but just to check that i would like to ask should we a "WAP supported lighter PDF" which can be accessed through cell phones/gprs, as when i do this on my cell phone (not only PDF but other sites like Yahoo) my cell phones goes dead, i mean slow.

Also it is difficult to scroll through the entire page on the cell phone as it loads all the info on that page including the thumbnails, avatars etc.

So just motivating Webby to think over this, if it's feasible bit economically and technically why not to have a WAP supported PDF.

I soemtimes surf with my mobile but that would cost money and is unnecessary. We don't need a WAP pdf. This is a serious forum and not a here and there forum.

Thanks for you input.

BTW, gprs if used on payment basis is expensive but if you subscribe to its unlimited version it comes in handy, atleast in Pakistan. Rs 500-600/- for unlimited gprs for one month is not a bad deal.

Moreover, how would a WAP PDF would make it a 'here and there' forum?? :)

Well, I think it would decrease the level of the quality because the users wouldn't write longer posts but small ones.
Anyway, of course I'd like it,too
I also voted for 'Yes' as I am not against it ;)

Yes you are probably right, but i personally feel that if the site would be lite easily loadable then one can switch to more threads and serious user would also like to write their heart out as this would enable them to access the site anywhere, thereby giving them more time to stay on the forum and write more.

i use have used both opera and opera mini, they work fine but the problem is that it opens the pages as it were being open on a computer, it downloads all the stuff, it works but it is cumbersome.

Have you visited the mobile supported msn, google or any other page? They are made for WAP so they omit the extra stuff.

In case of PDF avatars, the banners etc can be omitted in the WAP supported version.

I think when enigma mentioned WAP he meant WML compliant web browsing for mobile phones.

So with the proper tweaks it shouldn't matter whether you're on WAP, GPRS, EDGE, 3G or BIS, it would display you the forum in barebone theme format.

i am not much of a computer geek so don't know much about WML execpt that it is best suited for mobiles.

What i wanted to say was that as msn and others have separate kinda thing for the mobile which when accessed from mobile phones show the essential info and omit the remaining.

Try to open Sign In through opera, it will display the entire page (though formated according to the cell phone), with all of the ads, pics, links etc as if the page is opened on a computer.

But if you open mobile msn on opera it will show you a different thing.

All the compose, mail, contacts, options, listed mails etc stuff is there but it fits in the cell phone, it is lite and works faster then the usual web page.

i hope you know now what i meant.

well to cost less i usually disable the image load option.....in this way a 50kb page becomes 10kb or less......also opera resizes a page to fit your screen width,so you get a perfect forum read....it works great with me........regards

Ya you are right.
i also do the same, BTW i use the unlimited gprs package so no worrying of cost :)

But the problem is the same try to surf the actual msn page on the cell phone and the mobile msn page and tell me what difference you see.

Also refer to my previous post.

Since you guys are using vbulletin..you can try either a wml compatible theme which will be used by forum whenever it detects a mobile browser refferer...or there are some vbulletin plugins which output basic wap site..You should do a little research on vbulletin.org..I remember i used it on one of my site and it worked fine. Not sure if there is any plugin for latest version of vb.
