The Indian army is large but ill-equipped. Should we shrink our army down (perhaps 1/2 it's size?) so we can have more resources per unit? Our army would be more versatile and stronger with smaller but more well equipped solders.

. .

Actually Europe have different issues therefore they have small armies. IF war broke up between Pak and UK, Pak army can easily occupied the UK and same is for India they can occupy the Germany/France/Switzerland if war broke out....

Answer is no, India should increase its army as many people are getting jobs through army department. Don't reduce jobs.

European countries has hard time to find new recruits as people have many other options.

Keep in mind army jobs are considered as most boring/stodgy/stupid in Advance countries. Only those people join Army in UK/USA those fail to get job even on MacDonald.

He suffers from some condition (just read his other posts).

Take it easy on that guy.

@Nilgiri

I think his stupidity deserves punishment.. @war&peace

Smart people r considered mad by the rest of the society or people like u only because their intelligence isn't understood.I not only use all of my brains, but all I can borrow others too here to figure out. SIr, A thinker like me, kan c my words/actions as experiments and questions--as attempts to find out something. Success and failure are 4 me answers above all. It is not that I'm so smart.

That's not British, that's Canadian, more specifically Joint Task Force 2.

That's special forces, I believe, not infantry. OP is talking mainly about infantry quality, and Pakistani infantry suffers from a similar situation that India's infantry suffers from, a lack of resources per soldier.

. . . .
That's still quite poorly equipped.

Americans are very well equipped too but they are an outlier- large army and well-equipped

Well according to Pakistan's defence budget compared to India or the U.S, I think we are very well-equipped. You can only play with the hand you're dealt.

The world doesn't work like that. Armies don't go "hey this country is poor lets go easy on them and use our older equipment". The pakistani army is as poorly equipped (in some cases worse) as the Indian army

Does it have enough troops to meet its basic requirements and have enough slack to ensure it can plug holes? If yes, then cut the remaining overhead and begin a modernization plan.

I can't find the article atm but an Indian general said the army was too large. It had too many people doing to few tasks.

That said, I do believe the force could stand to become leaner, though fielding a small force isn't necessarily cheap either, especially when outfitted with high-tech arms.

My point isn't that the army should shrink to reduce budget costs but to free up money that can be used to buy more high tech arms. This is especially important for the strike cores which must have a technological advantage in order for Cold Start to be effective.

Pretty nice right? Helmets and shields.

I see the Norwegians are going back to their hold habits of raiding and conquering

Have a look at the map. Pakistan and India would go bankrupt just in transporting, supplying their armies across 4,000 miles. That is if they could move 1.5 million men across that distance. Which they would not be able to. What they propose to do? Move by mule train? The idiocy of some posters on PDF is beyond belief.

Though many people thought that fund the main problem but actually it mismanagement by Mod

India in house make one of the best BPJ's in the world but it's irony we not procure it due to inability of beaurucrats

.
It all depends
No offence but Norwegian military is for show. Nothing more. Who exactly is the threat to Norway. By a long shot I would say Russians. You know and I know if the Russians rolled west it would be the American's that would stop them. The real shield is America via NATO.

Rest is just bling. No offence intended to the pretty boys and galls of the Norwegian Armed Forces.

Yea MKU is used by the Americans but only foreign maal will satisfy our generals. Acquisitions should be overseen by an independent government agency.

Don't worry in decade or so when budget reaches close 100 billion we will have get that

That won't be enough for how large the army is and how expensive tech is.

It's not that expensive my friend we just acquired 50,000 BPJ for just 150 CR

And over 1lakh Kevlar helmets of 170 CR

If you see it's just peanuts for our mighty

51 billion $ budget

We can by BPJ and Kevlar helmets and gears for whole army for just 2-3 billions $

Irony is Indian Army unspend budget is 3 times larger than figure I mentioned above

Well Army is crying for it since decade there prayers just heard
