I dont think so. India has access to technology from round the world and dependence is both ways and They might not sell their latest technology to China because they dont want it to be reverse engineered and sold in competition with Russian weapons.

It has nothing to do with Indian logic, whatever that may be. Let's make one thing clear, India is too big to be confined by some opinions and actions. We don't want everybody to be on our side, but if everybody feels annoyed with China.....then it makes sense to work together. China can work with all of us but it chooses not to. That's CHinese logic I guess. Create more friction and more enemies. Russia has armed China to the teeth and given you guys more access to weapons than to INdia. Russia has been quiet and quite cozy whenever China starts acting foolish, at least that's how many Indian see it.

That is just silly. A pissed off Russia may sell to Pakistan, but never to China.

You will either reverse engineer it or use the same weapons in a future conflict with Russia.

Soviet Union spent a lot of money on military R&D 25 years back. They have reaped the benefits of that spending. But their weapons are getting pretty outdated.There is no way they can match up to the Americans or even the Chinese for in the near future. FGFA is going to be a pretty big albatross around India's neck eventually- and it is important to have an alternative or exit option. In any case be it scientific co-operation, or weapons development, or trade linkages or cultural linkages owing to Indian diaspora, India and the West are closer than India and Russia. As for the past co-operation during the Cold War- there is no need to get starry eyed. They benefited from India's voice as a key leader of the NAM too- from criticism of United States during Vietnam war and India's muted criticism of the Afghan invasion. Indira supported key Soviet ally Nasser during the crisis preceding the Six Day War, and even threatened to withdraw its UNPKF troops. If Russia gives a Bush like ultimatum, the choice is pretty clear.

Our national interests is our priority .That is why we always keep relation with all nations including China.And Russia is not USSR.But we dont allow US to reign our policies.
Russia gave us a lot of political and technological support.In turn we gave them a lot of money and contracts ,sometypes even tolerate their looting including INS Vikky.But that doesnt mean that thhey have some type of reservations in our market.
If you have good tech give us it and will give them money.If you dont others will do or will make it our own applies for
both US and Russia.

We have not push Russia nor complaint on Russia when they sold the better military weapons to India & Vietnam than to China such as the Sukoi fighter jet case: Su-30mki compare to what we got su-27s. Throughtout 20th century only Russia push other countries to work on it favor, not the other way around but thinking that India can to push Russia is just thing new to me, if you care to explain more how you gonna push Russia with money??

Indeed China has never expected Russia to sell the latest technology but they also know that China will not buy a downgrate weapons that we dont need unless if they make some interesting offer. And yes India has access to technology from around the world but all these countries are not stupid nether to sell India the latest technology but only the export version with a cut throat price...not only that you Indians will have to spend huge amount of money, time and labor to integrate different foreign components into your defense system and that again don't guaranty that you will have un optimum defense integration.

You really think that India is too big to be confined? ...simply because India is and will never be potentially capable to be a competitor or threat to the current superpower, if India is the world second economic power and can potentially threat to US on it soil as China now, most likely US will chose China to confine India. And talk about confinement, your Agni- missiles were confined to have a limited range that can not reach Europe nor US is an good example of that other western nations need not fear India because you Indians know how to confine yourself, you Indian better stay the way you're now and you will never be confined .

We have no concern if those annoyed countries are trying to work togheter with India because we know how to do the same in South Asia...it's just a fair game. Noone twist their arms to sell anything to us, they knew since 1960 after Sino-Soviet split, they have pull out the technical assistance to China, all our airplane were nailed on ground without spare parts, our tanks and trucks were only good for museum. From that lession that China's policy on military procurement was not to dependant on anyone for our national security, copy is a short term solution untill we can do thing by ourself.

Why should Russia be worried? Nothing important wrt to Government to Government relations was achived with this visit, it might had been a great PR show for Modi and US Indians and US companies, but that's it. Politically, nothing has changed, infact the expectations that at least something wrt to defence would came out of the visit was highly disappointed so far as well. So actually, Russia must be very happy that in times when they get more and more isolated, the US wasn't able to get India closer to their policies.

Russia was and is a good friend but business is business. Russia has given more than enough to China over India. As Im sure they wont feel aything as India goes looking for the best it can obtain.


CHina as gone well out of its way to bribe and buy whatever tech it could from Russia and former USSR states.
