Nuclear submarines are not needed as they are noisier. whereas current diesel electric submarines with AIP allows them to remain underwater for a period which is sufficient for any modern day conflict to last. U-209 or U-214 leasing makes sense if they are better than Chinese submarines which Pakistan is procuring, otherwise Pakistan should be satisfied with Chinese subs and may order more of same or advanced category, if needed.

turkey is building type 214's they can be built and sold on to pakistan if required. you wanted them originally, so why not, help your turkish bro's out, and get some milgems whilst your there, as you need them too.

Never knew Turkey makes its own submarines
I also came to know that here on PDF.

@cabatli_53 can you shed some light on it?

The Turkish Navy had commenced negotiations with HDW for six licence-built Type 214 class air-independent propulsion (AIP) submarines. According to the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries of the Turkish Government these submarines will be produced with maximum local content at Gölcük Naval Shipyard in Kocaeli, Turkey.

On 2 July 2009, HDW and the Turkish Ministry of Defence entered into an agreement for the licensed production of six platforms. The agreement was the largest defence acquisition project in Turkey at the time after the firm order for 116 F-35 fighters at a cost of in excess of $10 billion. Ankara hoped that its advanced, locally produced and highly modified Type 214 submarines will enter into service by 2015.[7][8][9] Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul stated that "Turkish industrial participation in the project would be worth around 80 percent of the total value of the deal".[10]

As the Turkish Type 214 will have a significant amount of Turkish indigenous systems on board, this variant of the Type 214 will be known as the Type 214TN (Turkish Navy). HDW will preassemble structural and mechanical parts of the submarine in Germany, or classified elements such as the fuel cells and propulsion system and will then ship them to Turkey. All electronic and weapon systems (including the C4I system) will be of Turkish production.

On 1 July 2011, the 2 billion euros order for six U 214 submarine material packages placed with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems by Turkey entered into force with receipt of the advance payment. This enabled ThyssenKrupp to begin executing the order. The order was designated to contribute to securing employment at HDW in Kiel, as well as at many subcontractors in Germany and Turkey, for the next ten years. Yet, recently Turkey has received around 2 Million euros compensation from ThyssenKrupp due to delayed manufacturing of the Type214TN. Possible reason for this delay is Turkeys demand for in-house developed software within the submarines. [11]

With Russia breathing down Erdogan's neck
And with NATO unlikely to come to its rescue in case of a Russian Invasion

Turkey might Just ask PN to lease 1 Agosta 90B sub
Along with 2 Sqds of F16 with 40-50 Brave pilots
Need to help turkey they choose wrong side let them face the music of US nato betryal policy with muslim nations

Why not refurnish Agosta 70B to 90B standard?
there were indications in the recent past that before Chinese subs agreement the Agosta 70s were upgraded and are fully operational. So we should stop giving statements without proofs. Secondly Pak has already faced effects of leasing Naval based assets. Further we should not make PN junkyard of oldies.

To get economy in case of naval assets PN should start joint projects with China to get real manufacturing capabilities not just assembling. We should go for production of ASHMs ourselves.
Pak may come in position in next few years at least to produce and sell FAC to other countries to compensate heavy PN expected expenses. All needs forecasting and planning which may be present at Naval Hq but not in Govt.

Pakistan's 3 Agosta 90B Submarines are shouldering the burden of defending the coastline. The 2 Agosta 70s are basically museum pieces that shouldn't be used because they risk the lives of the crews; due to their age much less their antiquated technology

Pakistan has always tried to acquire a qualitative edge over the Indians where it can. if Pakistan at least leases one if not two upgraded Turkish type 209 submarines; it can fill a gap; while learning about a different design philosophy when designing its future submarine with the Chinese (s-20) and also learn about a type the Indian navy operates

a 5 year lease of two of these submarines could be a smart stop-gap measure; especially if Pakistan can get them at a reasonable price

Should Pakistan approach turkey about this?
NO.

You use the Agosta 70s for training and theAgosta 90B for serious duty. They are paid for, they are reasonably capable and reasonablyt up to date. Why bother with a lease of a new shiptype?

These Type 214TN's will be the last subs ''bought'',there is a national submarine program called MILDEN,we will be building our own indigenous subs in the future.
