Shoot me, but I still won't sing Vande Mataram, says Muslim leader

Vande maataraM
sujalaaM suphalaaM malayaja shiitalaaM
SasyashyaamalaaM maataram ||

Mother, I bow to thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Dark fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.

Shubhrajyotsnaa pulakitayaaminiiM
pullakusumita drumadala shobhiniiM
suhaasiniiM sumadhura bhaashhiNiiM
sukhadaaM varadaaM maataraM ||
Translation by Shree Aurobindo

Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I bow.

These two are the adopted lines as national song

Man i tried singing this. What a tongue twister.

But beautiful lyrics though

It's Bengali.;)

:DSomething I heard starting from my kindergarten. Though it's not my mother tongue I can sing easily.

That's Bengali?

I thought it was like South Indian or something.

I guess the spirit of the words count than the actual word.

Muzzies are sensitive bunch

. . . . .
The real issue with em sensitive bunch is the lines that praise some hindu goddess

Only the first 2 stanzas are adopted, and there is no any reference there.

how about Hindus stop imposing vande mataram on everyone for the very SAKE OF unity and harmony ??
why always the minority in India should bow?

I'm an Indian christian & I have no problem singing Vande Matharam. Maybe it's just that people from a certain religion are way too fundamentalist.

Man these muzzies know many songs by heart which praise Satan and Lilith.

And somehow this is a big deal.

Smh

Just curious. If Islam don't allow to be able to say certain words how is it freedom?
Every religion works on a certain rules. If Hinduism was about freedom, who not every cast is allowed to do the pooja in temples, why only brahmin?

Christians have a priest, why can't a drunk yard, when he is not drunk can't do sermons?

I'm not questioning it, but religion follows certain rules. Not just Islam, but every religion.

Also, in India you have almost every fundamental rights. How come we can't simply walk in to every place we want, say presidents house. After all, we are paying for them with our tax money.

ikr. See, he now has some publicity. Some people will criticize him. Many will support him. Some hurls death threat at him.

Eventually this will settle down.

Public memory is short.

I was talking about the following stances. Not the first two

No religion is great my dear friend :-). But atleast in others you can go against rules and still be a part of it. Anyways my question was valid, you are claiming rules the other person is claiming fredom. How does uttering few words makes you go againt Islam? Muslims daily say thousands of things probably which Islam prohibits. But seriously I feel Muslims can't do anything about it. It hard to go against the rules in Islam. If I was a Muslim, I too would probably be defending the way you are doing because even the most progressive Muslims are conservative.

Nope, its not Bengali. Its a common misconception.

Its Sanskrit written in Bengali script and using bengali grammar. Sanskrit means "pure / prefect language", this is impure or imperfect sanskrit called "Tatsama sanskrit" or "Sadhu Bhasa" (language of Sadhu's/rishis/sanyasi). Very similar to ancient Prakrit which is Sanskrit with Pali grammar and script.

You can listen to the original rendition of the song which captures the intended spirit of the song.

Also the Translation of "Vande Maataram" as "I bow to thee mother" is wrong.

Vande means "Praise". Its addition of the word "nam" that would have made it "bow" i.e. "Vandanam".

Maata Means "mother", ending it with "ram" means "virtues / pleasing". So "Maataram" means "virtues of Mother". The song context tells us its "Mother Land" which is called mother.

So the original meaning of the song is,

"Vande Maataram" = "Praise of Mother lands Virtues" or "In Praise of my pleasing Mother Land".
