I love hummus and the garlic sauce and the fattoush.

I've recently learned that sumac is the perfect spice to add flavor to anything.

I once heard that the lebanese sometimes eat raw ground beef? Is that true?

In Dubai you probably get the best Lebanese food, especially in a place called Hallab.

Shawarma is pretty good, but I know some special places in Dubai where you can get amazing shawarmas.

Shawarma is actually passed down to the Arabs from the Turkish Doner.

The best kinds are the large Shawarmas (also known as Arabic Shawarma). These contain thoom (garlic sauce), chicken, french fries.

They are wrapped in thin Irani bread (similar to those breads used in Fajitas) instead of regular khubz.

The whole thing is then lightly dipped in the Shawarma Fat accumulating and then put in a grill with some weight on it, then flipped to do the other side.

This brings about a nice and crunch exterior and soft and yummy interior.

This is one shawarma cut in half.

Only the cheap/lazy places do the grill thing here because it lets them use cold bread.

The better places use fresh, warm bread and wrap the doner/shwarma in it. You will never see a good doner place put a rolled doner in a grill because the sauces and salad within the roll should not be grilled and squashed.

A true shawarma does not need Salad, just thoom and french fries.

The grilling makes the bread crunch, which is very important. It also makes the Thoom ooze out...

Doner's don't use thoom as sauce they have their own Yoghurt based variant and it may be true about them. Other Tahina based shawarma's (khaleeji shawarma) also perhaps cannot be grilled. But thoom based Shawarma can and should be grilled for optimum taste.

The fresh bread options are reserved for sheesh tawook sandwich. Again I have to mention Hallab here as they do the best bread - they add a little bit of cinnamon to their bread which gives it a nice aroma.

I love chicken shawarma plate and I agree the gulf region dont put salad in shawarma

some thing like this, only chicken, fries, pickels and garlic sauce. This pic was taken in Dubai. it tastes the best!

Our Shawarma is not at all like this

I think what we got is the watered down version of the original shawarma!!

Shawarma is one of the most awesome stuff that I have ever had. I am huge fan. It has become very popular , at least in Delhi of late.

Where is that.... I want to eat one now............. dip it in that garlic sauce and much on it........... :hang2:

There are many obscure places to get these awesome Shawarma's but one particular chain can be tried is Farooj Al Tazaj, in Dubai.

Although, I like their Mexicy Shawarma. Its a Tahina based Shawarma, however it has some Hot Sauce mixed in the Tahina and just the right consistency of olive oil in that Tahina.

Its not REALLY spicy like Pakistani food, but spicy by Arab standards.

Its a very different and nice shawarma and easily available all over Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi.
