What's new

Shantanu Cafe

For some reason, many Indian boys of today's generation don't touch alcohol or cigarettes. I have seen this in India. Of course, there are many who do but it's not like before.

Mera generation shayd last thaa jo cigarette sharaab khullam khulla peeta tha. I started cigs at age 12, but tha was because of my father and mother. Both used to smoke and drink in my presence.

But many Indian boys who were my friends also used to smoke and drink. And their family environment was better than mine.

Aj kal kay India may, young larkian zada smoke aur drink karti hai o_O particularly in big cities.
Sab ko freedom hai jo chahy kary gender ko goli maro

Aapki ammi nay kabi cigarette sharaab peekay apnay yaar kay sath gulchharey nahi kie hongay...

Aap kay father nay drunk ho kar aapko hi ""harami" nahi bola hoga...

Ye sab meray sath hua hai.

All girls should not drink/smoke. I hate women who drink or smoke.

Politics aside, there are certain Pakistanis who are "crowd-pleasers" in Indian groups. Very much in demand because of their sharp wit and inside knowledge of Indians.

You definitely seem one of them.

Not very lady like, although going back to the 60's and 70's, lighting was considered chic.

I think it's also to do with how people don't get how you can beat a good crack without drinking. They (mostly European men) would say aside faith why you don't drink. I replied I'm already hyperactive as hell, and also my A game with the ladies is on point, as I'm aware and not falling over myself or saying stupid things. They thought long and hard about that and said, damn he's right hahaha.

I don't have a "gotra" which is essential for all Hindu males.

Sorry for interrupting, but you do know that you never have a gotra; it is your father's gotra that you inherit, witout doing anything about it. So how you can not have a gotra is baffling.

Before you ask, your father or his family have nothing to do with it.

In Bombay, they used to have a mod culture as early as late 60s, imported directly from London. I am presuming you are UK-born.

In the '60s and '70s Smoking and drinking among women was definitely chic in South Bombay and other posh circles of India.

But the price was heavy? Most such women who did that were considered "loose"...the children in the homes bore the brunt of the impact. Unlike the Wesr, there were no laws against child abuse in India back then. Violent abusive parents were everywhere.

I grew up in the late 80s and 90s when it was marginally better for kids in dysfunctional homes. The generation of kids before me had it a lot worse I believe.

I have not an iota of doubt you don't need alcohol to connect with people.

Screw Western values and the European drinking culture. I'm a proud Asian, and women in our cultures are not supposed to drink alcohol. That's my view.

Westernization in Asian cultures does not always have good impact. It harms the family environment.

Yes UK born. That's really interesting what you wrote , I love reading history from personal accounts.

Yep, I've travelled Asia all over and drinking is a very low key, minority thing among Asian women. Most actually don't get involved at all due to the negativity attached to the fairer sex drinking in our collective Asian culture.

Joe, you don't have to say "excuse me" stuff to contribute on this thread. You are more than welcome despite our differences in CoC. I did say you are a respectful, informative poster.

About the gotra stuff...it's just an example of why I don't feel Hindu. I am closer to Islam than Hinduism because of my family circumstances. Had my mother been a religious Muslim lady, I would have certainly been raised a Muslim.

I have very rarely been invited to any Hindu religion functions on my father's side of the family.

Enjoy this thread. It seems "Shantanu's Cafe" is the new "adda" point. No role of mine, it is a certain moderator with a cheeky sense of humour....meri izat ucchal nay kay lie ye joke kia usnay.:o:

The Thai hookers in Phuket that give company to their farang customers, are often greatly relieved when their client doesn't smoke or drink.

A Russian hooker be like: "What kind of man are you with no bad habits?" :p: of course they smoke like chimneys.

Asia > Europe anyday

I am still confused. What is/was your father's gotra?
