Shaikh Essa Mashwani, the first known Pashto poet
Keeping in mind the controversy about authenticity of Pata Khaza, Essa Mashwani would be the first known Pashto poet who lived during Sher Shah Suri's reign. The Pashto prose is older than Mashwani's poetry. The first known Pashto books are "Da Swat Fatah" by Shaikh Mali Yusufzai (Minister of Malik Ahmad) written around 1418 AD, which is available in British Museum of London. Another is Daftar-i-Shaikh Mali by same author, which is lost.
