SRINAGAR, (SANA): In Indian Occupied Kashmir, several people were injured when Indian police resorted to brute force to disperse a peaceful procession in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar here on Friday.

The procession was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and led by its Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, to impress upon India and Pakistan to give priority to the Kashmir dispute in their talks. The police arrested several pro-liberation leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Javed Ahmed Mir and Noor Muhammad Kalwal on the occasion and detained them at Kothi Bagh Police Station. Earlier, talking to media men, Yasin Malik urged Pakistan and India to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri people without any further delay.

Indian police took into custody the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani along with the spokesman of his party, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Genai, while they were going to a mosque to offer Juma prayers. They were lodged at Humhama police station.

Complete shutdown was observed in Handwara against the desecration of Holy Quran and a mosque by unidentified persons in Palpora area. People staged demonstrations against the incident.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing a gathering at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, maintained that inclusion of the Kashmiris in the talks between Pakistan and India was imperative to make the dialogue process meaningful and result-oriented.

APHC leaders, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Zafar Akbar Butt and Syed Bashir Andrabi addressing public gatherings at different places said that settlement of Kashmir dispute was essential for establishing cordial relations between the two countries.

In London, the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, in a statement said that Indian rejection of DNA tests of the bodies buried in thousands of unmarked graves in occupied Kashmir was in fact acceptance of the custodial killings by Indian troops in the territory during last two decades.
