ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said security of Iran is security of Pakistan adding close brotherly relations between the two countries guarantee for peace in the region.

Qureshi said this in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart foreign minister Manochehr Mottaki here Friday.

He went on to say both Pakistan and Iran wanted a stable, prosperous and peaceful Afghanistan adding a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of both the countries. The two countries would work jointly for resolution of Afghan issue and would take forward the dialogue process on this count, he underlined.

Iran was all set to extend every assistance to Pakistan in the prevailing economic situation, he noted. " We have agreed on initiating IPI gas pipeline project soon. We once again invite India to join the project. But we can wait no more. It has been agreed upon to conclude this project on fast track basis to meet energy requirements of Pakistan", he pointed out.

Five important matters in this respect had already been settled, he said adding price fixation formula will soon be evolved. It will not only give impetus to the economic development of Pakistan but will also ensure supply of low cost energy to people, he added. A 2-day visit of Iran will be undertaken from October 27 to hold talks on vital technical matters, he told.

He indicated the matter related to import of electricity from Iran was also discussed. Iran will export 1000 megawatt electricity. More rice would be imported to Iran due to bumper crop, he pointed out.

Iran will provide crude oil to Pakistan on deferred payment for three months to meet growing energy needs of the country, he informed. Both the countries have also agreed on formation of joint working group to further strengthening people to people contact besides improving road and rail links. Both the countries will work together in this regard, he added.

Iranian Foreign Minister said Iran and Iranian nation strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Pakistan. "These incidents are an attack on the security and stability of our brother and we can not tolerate it" he announced. " We are seeing various pledges at the regional level. But all policies had met failure during the past 7 years, he added.

He maintained Iran would continue close cooperation with Pakistan at every level. IPI Gas Pipeline Project was of very vital importance for the two countries." We want more investment in different projects of energy and banking sector in Pakistan", he remarked. We want to turn 1000 kilometer long border into border of peace and amity. No one will be allowed to carry out border violations. Joint surveillance will be conducted on Iran-Pakistan border, he indicated.
