Sri Lanka U-15 cricket team have been deported from Chennai.
Chennai: A junior cricket team from Sri Lanka, which arrived here to participate in a private tournament, was sent back today owing to security concerns, senior police officials said. The 16-member team had arrived from Colombo last night and were put up at an accommodation in the city. They were denied permission to participate in the tournament this morning owing to security reasons, officials added.

They later left for home, a PTI report said. The Under-15 private tournament is scheduled to be held from August 4-7.

The incident comes close on the heels of a derogatory article against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on a Sri Lankan official website which also had a graphic image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The article triggered widespread public and political outrage in the state prompting Sri Lanka to remove it and issue an unqualified apology to the two leaders.

Incidentally, in 2012, Jayalalithaa had, in line with her strident stance against Sri Lanka, ordered the sending home of a soccer team from that country which arrived here to play a friendly match. The action came against the backdrop of her opposition to India training Sri Lankan military personnel not only in the state but also anywhere else in the country, saying the Lankan forces had committed war crimes against Tamils in the island nation.

An official in the Nehru stadium of the state government was suspended for giving oral approval for the match.

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence website shows its “unqualified apology” over an article critical of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa that appeared on the Sri Lankan Army site.

Rajya Sabha on Monday witnessed two adjournments during Question Hour as AIADMK members vociferously protested against a “derogatory” article against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Sri Lankan government website.

AIADMK members trooped into the Well shouting slogans, which made Chairman Hamid Ansari to observe that their behaviour was unbecoming of Members of Parliament.

When the House met, Mr. Ansari congratulated the Indian sports contingent for winning 15 gold medals, 30 silver and 19 bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland, saying their achievement had made India proud.

AIADMK members moved into the aisles displaying copies of the article on the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website.

Sri Lanka has already apologised for the article and removed it from the website.

“What are you doing? I am sorry you can’t do this,” Mr. Ansari remarked as AIADMK members moved into the Well.

He then adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

When the House reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed.

“This is no way of raising an issue. Tell you colleagues to go back to their places,” he told AIADMK leader M. Maitreyan, who too was up on his feet raising the issue.

But the members continued to shout slogans and soon Mr. Maitreyan too trooped into the Well as the din continued.

“This behavior is unbecoming of Members of Parliament,” Mr. Ansari said.

“Ten members are holding the House to ransom. This behavior is unbecoming of Members of Parliament,” he said, before adjourning the House till noon

Police personnel, who were posted in the area in view of the agitation by the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, nabbed them. Both were remanded in custody.
Earlier in the day, nine volunteers of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam staged a black flag demonstration in front the office. They were taken into custody and released in the evening.

well done, Tamilnadu has shown the middle finger to India , the Lankan defence website article as published immediately after BJP /RSS top brass conducted a seminar - 'India under Modi' in Colombo.

seminar's resolution - Tamilnadu's role

Tamil Nadu
* Tamil Nadu factor will no longer come between Indo-Lanka relations.
* Tamil Nadu no longer has veto power on Indo-Lanka relations.
