Jodhpur: The second trial of Arjun–Mark II, the advance version of India’s main battle tank, has begun in Pokharan firing range. The trial is aimed at testing the range and strength of the tank and other weaknesses pointed out in the first trail.

Following the first trial, the Indian Army had highlighted the need of some more technical requirements.

Arjun’s new version boasts of an improved missile firing range apart from a latest laser system, which can detect explosives on the ground.

Following the trial, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will be making suitable changes in the tank on the advice of military experts. This advanced version of the tank is likely to be inducted into the Indian Army by next year.

“The trial of the advance version of Arjun has started in Pokharan firing range. This is a development trial and the tanks will be handed over to the Indian Army after removing all the faults pointed out by the military experts,” Col SD Goswamy, Defence spokesperson, said.

Apart from its phenomenal missile launching capabilities, Arjun Mark II also has an enhanced auxiliary power unit, explosive reactive armour panels, mine plough, automatic target tracking, advanced land navigation system, digital control harness, and advanced commander panoramic sight among various other features.

One of the critical features of the tank is that a missile can be fired from it to destroy long range targets and also shoot down enemy helicopters.

The 58 tons Arjun mk 1, which has been fitted with German engine, was inducted in the Indian Army years ago. The Indian Army has placed an order for 124 such tanks.

Man iron dome is a air defence system. I think you meant iron fist and yeah arjun mk2 will feature an Israeli APS and it is most likely to be iron fist but it could also be Trophy APS (very less chance).

Great!!

Finally Arjun is maturing and evolving into a lethal warrior on the battlefield. Considering that the rate of assembly is pretty good at Avadi, how come we aren't looking for aggressively exporting the Arjuns? I am sure people are interested in heavy tanks as well. Arjun has everything a modern tank of today should and with upgrades can become a lethal tank.

Let it come out first...Let our Amry first consume the tank in effective numbers and then we can move on to the export part...

Raj bhai, our rate of production is pretty good. Export orders will allow us to further reduce cost of assembling opening up more assembly lines and hence providing more jobs to qualified engineers. Arjuns can easily be inducted in time in our Army and are going on continuously. If MBT-2000 can find a market, Arjun would be the perfect rival.

You are right buddy...i was not challenging that part at all...however Arjun comes with a baggage(lot of controversy in the past)...Unless and until our Army consumes it in good number it is very hard to find a worthy buyer...Imagine 124 ordered by an Amry which has about 4000+ tank strength...Don't forget this is our first try at MBT...So yes we should go for exports but first and foremost focus should be to solve/fix all the issues/feedback that Army have...

^^ Not yet.. but soon it will :D.

Well i know we are waiting for that moment...Arjun has been branded from "Arjunk" to failed project to not sure what all...It is great a feeling that you see the same machine coming out of shadows and proving out to be best of best...Big order from IA would prove to be the last straw to break the camel's back :D
