Both are different class of MBT, Arjuna is heavy class , while AK is medium weight class... Pakistan denied M1Abarams due to its weight. Arjuna weight 60+ tonns while AK weight 45+ tonns...

By weight AK and T90 in same class and Arjuna and M1abaram in one class... there are many threads where both tanks were compared , please refer those posts...

M1 Abrams they denied it because it was too expensive not because of weight but you are right AK and Arjun are not similar in terms of weight

besides Arjun MK1 despite it being proficient the army does not want a lot of it but they will order more MK2 because they're requirements changed and the MK2 will meet those requirements adding on the Arjun MK2 will be lighter as well aproxx 55tons

regarding weight i guess not.... I has still increased to 60+ tonnes.. there is no optimization on that.. only way to superceed is to put a powerful engine .... which is what is done..

I don't think so, Pakistan could have got Abarams through some other channel if they were costly... The solo reason was warfare in swamp/muddy land. Heavier tanks maneuverability ceased in muddy terrain. M1 can work exceptionally at thar desert, but in Punjab , it may be a disaster.. The ground pressure of M1 Abarams was higher than Paktsani required...

Money could be one issue, but it was not the solo issue... Its already been discussed on PDF...

Its really great news, If they could make it near to 51-52 tonns then it will be an achievement...

the FMBT will weigh 50 tons that will follow after the MK2 variant, when the MK1's go upgrades to become MK2's than they will become lighter as well, however when all of the MK2's need upgrades they will be upgraded to the FMBT standard

i have not heard a lot about the FMBT but its supposed to be cutting edge and a real beast

if it was 66 tones army would not accept it they specifically told DRDO that the MK2 had to meet the changed requirements of the army which included reduced weight and better missile firing capability just to name a few

i think the links is from pictures/arjun-india/p35...arjun-mk2.html which is altered by the forum...

MK2 you cant reduce... it is the FMBT that was supposed to be less than 50 tonnes... secondly even the HP power of FMBT will be around 1500 hp and the size will be 2/3rd of the current german engine.. Army will accept this MK2 configuration and will not be deployed near the Gujarat valley but near the punjab and rajasthan where there is no sensitive bridges..

the DRDO has reduced the weight by adding more lighter and stronger composites to the Arjun MK2 as well as restructuring the tank hull and modifying the turret in order to make it weigh less adding on the Arjuns engine will be indigenous producing more HP than the current german one on the MK1

MK2 will be the real beast it will be more agile and will look slightly different than the MK1

in all the army has ordered 496 Arjun tanks 248 MK1 and 248 MK2
