SD-10 A specs

This is an air to air MRAAM its RCS would be smaller than a cruise missile. But why does it even matter? Again you are comparing it to air to surface and surface to surface missiles. Its target would already know its coming through RWR.
RCS matters a lot bro on early warning systems.

. . . .
. . .
Dayem, was expecting 100km.

But at what aspect? Head on, chase, altitude etc? Because range will matter a lot.
@Oscar

70km can be taken as average.. tail chase might be lower, head on higher. . Just take the specs of AIM-120C5 and you have the exact analogue of what the SD-10A is.

.
We are talking about SD-10 in BVR engagement. RWR would alert the target aircraft of a lock. MAWS are comparatively less common.

True, but RWR does not tell the pilot about launch of a missile or did it??

. .
Lock and painting, yes. Launch, no. But neither will MAWS at greater than 20-25 km range.

F-35 DAS seems to be best passive multi-function system till now.

. . .
to ranges exceeding 800 miles (1300 kilometers):o:

It will be superb to have in JF-17s if China develops similar system as it have potential to provide guidance passively to missile like SD-10:

The only 360 degree, spherical situational awareness system

Northrop Grumman has developed the only 360 degree, spherical situational awareness system in the electro-optical distributed aperture system (DAS). The DAS surrounds the aircraft with a protective sphere of situational awareness. It warns the pilot of incoming aircraft and missile threats as well as providing day/night vision, fire control capability and precision tracking of wingmen/friendly aircraft for tactical maneuvering.

Designated the AN/AAQ-37 and comprising six electro-optical sensors, the full EO DAS will enhance the F-35's survivability and operational effectiveness by warning the pilot of incoming aircraft and missile threats, providing day/night vision and supporting the navigation function of the F-35 Lightning II's forward-looking infrared sensor.

The DAS provides:

  • Missile detection and tracking
  • Launch point detection
  • Situational awareness IRST & cueing
  • Weapons support
  • Day/night navigation

J20 prototype (No.2011-2013)has fitted with EODAS system, but the function is still unknown.

SD-10 is a little heavy.I'm wondering at what speed and height the 70km was tested
