Saying 'divorce' consecutively should be punishable, rules CII!

You are probably right about this, that's why I was saying that if the CII's mandate does not include said issues, the government should form a separate body for them or give the CII mandate. Either way, it is essential to discuss those issues from an Islamic perspective so that they can be handled effectively and without going against Islam.
I agree, I think a separate body needs to be formed, to find solutions, one that has the authority to issue government backed fatwas. This way the government has not only legal, but religious justification for taking action against radical preachers.

The link I found was from April 2007 (edited the post), so unless they said something similar later on during Zardari's term, you've got the timeline a bit wrong.
If it was infact in Zardari's term, well, Zardari is Zardari, what can we say. The PPP government had a lot of problems, but it'll be off topic if we tried to discuss them.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was during Zardari's era. It was largely ignored because of the poor state of the economy, and crisis after crisis. Mind you, Pakistan is still recovering from his incompetence, but yeah, I agree, that's a separate topic.

It is very hard for a woman to leave an abusive relationship in Pakistan, those who are brave and strong willed enough to have to face the nightmare of local courts, the recent changes have really meant a lot of women can claim their rights, but still a lot of work remains.

Problem is that we never encourage female since childhood and its make her confident down and because if this un-justice created by their parent most of them fail to compete the world. We should focus on our root cause.

Splendid! The most critical issue facing the nation at this time of course, just another day and just another controversial good-for-nothing statement from the CII, the former gem was lifting the restrictions on child marriage and leaving the current wife while she's pregnant and maarying another woman (, not so long ago. Surprisingly, the same body has never once condemned the religious extremism and terrorism which the country is facing. Neither has an effort been seen from the morons lead by Sherani to prevent and punish the severe abuse of religion all around Pakistan. Similar to the Mullahs of Baghdad who were arguing between themselves whether eating a crow is permissable or not whilst the enemy was at the gates of the city. The world is moving forward and we are being led into another futile debate to punish the person who said "Talaq" three times. How ridiculous can this get? And how exactly would someone prove a thing like this, in a court of law though? Would the Mullahs themselves go and extract the confession out? Even the defense lawyer provided by the Govt would get him a "not guilty" verdict on first hearing Lol

Question: Does the rule of saying talaq 3 times apply for women to get a divorce from their husband too? Discriminatory if it doesn't.

While it is easy to say that the CII isn't doing enough to combat extremism, and is only worrying about useless issues (at least what the public deems to be useless), it's mandate was never meant to combat extremism. The CII was simply an advisory board on Islamic law, helping the government make sure that Pakistani laws did not conflict with Islam, and giving religious advice to the government. One could argue that it's past fatwas against extremism were in fact stepping over it's boundaries, as issuing such fatwas are not apart of it's mandate.

Here, a bit of reading on the CII.

Council of Islamic Ideology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I feel that the organization gets unjustified criticism sometimes, through no fault of it's own. It is simply doing what it is mandated to do, nothing more.
lol, thanks for this piece of article. People should wait a bit before bashing any kind of beings, organizations or countries. This is a very serious issue, terrorism itself can be partially banished if these divorce situations can be properly fixed along with equal rights for women in courts and especially, especially Pakistani society. The courts may or may not give equal rights to women but what our "muashra"(society) does to women who divorce is equally or more worse.

I don't quote religion but the following is a hadith concerning divorce (different forms of it can be found). Please read it with an open mind, you can agree or disagree with it, it really doesn't matter to me.
"Verily, Iblees (Iblis, Satan or Shaytan) placed his throne over the water and then he sends out his troops. The nearest to him are the greatest at causing tribulations. One of them says: I have done this and this. Iblees says: You have done nothing. Another says: I did not leave this person until I caused discord between him and his wife. Iblees says: You have done well."

Or this one. "Every evening, the Devils gather around their head(they have a hierarchy too, like humans) and the head calls out to the others to see who has done the most harm today. One raises the hand and says "I have made someone drunk". The head says that you haven't done anything. Another raises the hand and says "I have made someone kill another person". The head says that you haven't done anything. Another raises the hand and says "I have made a husband and a wife quarrel and made a rift among them". The head calls him over and says, "Look, you should all be like this and only he/she has done some good(according to them)".

The reason for divorce being a grave matter is because it destroys families and bloodline(s) of the future. I am not against equality though but the equality shouldn't be after divorce but before it too.

Does the rule of saying talaq 3 times apply for women to get a divorce from their husband too? Discriminatory if it doesn't.
Saying the word goes both ways, both a woman and a man have the right to say the words three(3) times in their life. Three times is because it should be specific and clear and not cause confusion. It is a very grave matter and even in jokes, the word shouldn't be said either.

The above is what I have heard but not confirmed, the source is my family, any other forum member can confirm this?

Maualana Sherani said people get divorced without any hesitation nowadays and much more care should be taken while ending such a ‘sacred’ relationship.

this maulana sherani is being anti-islam by saying that marriage is a "sacred relationship"... it is not... marriage can exist only if both parties are happy with it... if not, it should be declared null and void... the only sacred thing in a marriage is happiness.

and it is good that more divorces are happening "nowadays" as he says... that is, if the wife is being agreeable to the divorce... that is what divorce exists for... to divorce.

the model for pakistan should have long been the libyan jamahiriya, where ladies were free in their decisions and choice... for that, pakistan needs a cultural/social revolution, and the first step would be to shut down this "council for islamic ideology".

Non logical .... law , if someone is abusive(women/man) or the women is crazy or man , hell end the relation and get on with life

These bozo's have completely lost it with their interpretations of laws

Such shitty councils should be banned. Who are they to make laws and pass these judgments? Bunch of thugs fooling people.

"Saying the word talaq thrice consecutively is against the Sunnah," said Islamic Idelogy Council’s chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani.

The Council of Islamic Ideology recommended on Wednesday punishment for individuals who say ‘divorce’ three times consecutively in a bid to finalise the finality of their marriage.

Citing increasing divorce rates, Islamic Idelogy Council’s chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani said repeating the word talaq (divorce)thrice’ is unlawful and rather a spouse should say the words over a period of time.

“Saying the word talaq thrice consecutively is against the Sunnah,” the chairman said.

Islam requires the divorcee to pronounce ‘talaq’ thrice for it to be legalised. However, the council has upheld it should not be said consecutively.

Maualana Sherani said people get divorced without any hesitation nowadays and much more care should be taken while ending such a ‘sacred’ relationship.

Islam takes distinction over other religions when it comes to women’s rights, going as far as allowing a woman to seek divorce from her husband if he fails to fulfill his obligations. However, despite laws concerning litigation over matrimonial disputes Pakistani women, face great humiliation and hardships when it comes to safeguarding their rights.

Further, last year several rights activists condemned a report of the CII declaring the law requiring consent from first (second or third) wife for another marriage un-Islamic. The CII had said that Sharia did not bind a husband to seek permission from any of his wives before contracting another marriage.

It nullified land reforms of the 1970s, it dismissed tests as evidence of criminal violence against women and now it is attacking the civil rights of women in Pakistan.”

Seriously? Thank God we haven't faced Iranian style Mullah revolution or such nonsense would have become daily routine applied automatically for millions of innocent people!
