its federal property, was sold just for a 10 million rs but since the auction was challenged in court, it was declared illegal...

there was a room in this hotel that Jinnah used, it was preserved, dont know about now, secondly I think its sold now and owned by some saudi prince's front man... are you sure its still run and owned by government?

Never Mind...

Here is some info from wikipedia

Prior to Faletti's privatization, the government-owned Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) held 86.8% shares in Faletti's holding company, Associated Hotels of Pakistan (AHP), whereas private investors held the balance 13.2%. Since 1992, AHP hotels, including Faletti's (as well as Flashman's Hotel in Rawalpindi and Cecil Hotel in Murree), were on a 50-year lease to PTDC at an annual lease rental of Rs. 1 million each.[6]

Pakistan's Privatization Commission initiated the privatization process on 21 August 1997[6] and put up the hotel for privatization in April/May 2002.[1] Due to the poor market response, the hotel was again put up for sale in December 2003[1] and was finally privatized in 2004[2] after Four Brothers Marketing (Pvt.) Ltd. put in the highest and successful bid at Rs. 1.211 billion.[13][14]

In February 2006, Four Brothers Marketing (Pvt.) Ltd. sold Faletti's Hotel to a US company, Morganti Group, Inc., based in Abu Dhabi

knew I was right..

Why preserve this crap?It does not look good..just demolish it and build new modern buildings.

only if people stop littering all over, and learn to keep the city clean...

I recall my cousin went to Iran and threw away a juice bottle, some nearby Irani came to him and said "put it in the dustbin over there, this is Iran, not Pakistan".. he told us that he felt so ashamed that since then he promised to himself not to throw away stuff other than in a dustbin..

only if we learn to change our behaviour of littering...

Heritage should be preserved. These artifacts adds to the beauty of any city and attracts tourism. Even in those countries where sky scrapers build the skyline visible from miles, heritage is preserved. In one of the countries there was a road/rail track was planned on execution they came across a an old house which was coming in way. The authorities dug, lifted and moved the building a couple of meters off the track, ensuring that heritage is protected. It costed a huge amount to undertake this exercise.
