I have read newspaper reports previously about SA, Libyan, Qatari, and UAE investment several times. But, nothing of those sorts ever materialized. This time it is again SA investment thing. SA's domestic investments are done by the private companies (Local and FDI) and not by the govt of SA. Please ask any of these companies to make its intention of investment clear.

You'd actually be better off attracting investments from Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and even the EU than Saudi. Remember there is a heavy catch that comes with Saudis. Not to mention that you have been a victim of that catch for a long time and have suffered.

Saudi ambassador said Saudi Arabia is now more interested in bilateral trade and investment in Bangladesh then getting workers. He also said that Saudi Arabia is investigating torturing of Bangladeshi female maid in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh high commission is also doing their part but mentioned number of maid has returned so far is negligible during opening of a Saudi Fast Food chain in Dhaka.

The so called Islamic State is not carrying out a charitable act if they indeed invest in BD. These are calculated investment moves that the perceived they can make a profit out of. These so called Islamic States have many times more investments in India, a non Muslim country. I can not classify a business move as virtue or vice, it's just business.

we should not act hastily.... if Saudi wants to invest carry out an cost benefit analysis and then make a decision.

Saudis have money in the form of their sovereign investment company but they do not have any technical skills or industry/service that is transferrable into BD scenario. They piggy back their investment on external potential growth sectors. we should encourage them to invest in our stock market or enter into joint venture with state enterprises for capital projects.

BD should also offer its military services to the saudis (not for external adventures but as boosting numbers for Saudi defence). Greater engagement there could generate a lot of money for the armed services.

I m not saying that no Bangladeshi worker has been exploited by some of the the Saudi sheikhs but these types of people can be found in every society.

Just look at how some of our own people treat their fellow Bangladeshis if they belong to a poor class.

Yup.

We should not paint all Saudis with the same broad brush.

They are behaving no differently than we would, if we had the same level of oil money.

Granted, they have wider gaps in their governance structure to prevent abuses. I have seen decent educated Pakistanis and Bangladeshis get beaten with sticks by these uneducated animals in the Kaabah they call the police.

They should do more to invest in our people and infrastructure rather than fund madrassahs every moment Jamaat goes to Makkah and asks for it. This should help them with a better return financially rather than being accused of funding terror camps.

There is nothing disrespectful when you state the truth. A country is at fault when they knowingly decide not to punish the perpetrators of rape. Have you ever heard even one employer getting punished for raping Bangladeshi or Filipino maid? Show me 1 example?

Two wrongs do not make it right. I do not for a second doubt that Bangladeshi employers are nasty but how does that excuse Saudis? That is no logic.

If Saudis do not become civilized and focus on educating their youth, empowering women, diversify economy and embrace new social and moral norms than once this oil dries out, they will end up living like they did 150 years back.
