This is an example of what damage has resulted to our country by giving power to religious people. Politics should be rules by qualified people not religious clerics. Hell man the people who bring the worst grades in school go to religious colleges then those very guys become the bosses of the better ones. THAT is what is wrong with this country.

Well its not a secret the the religious are in bed with royal family since the 18 century. After all, that's how the country was formed. However, I don't think religious and qualified are antithetical, someone could be religious and very qualified, but your right that religion should not be the main factor instead of qualification. BTW what do you think of Salih Al-Mghamsi?

The problem with having a mufti who was born blind is that all of his knowledge comes from what is read to him, so its very difficult for him to diversify his pool of knowledge, and thus his unipolar view of the world.

Islam does tend to favor selection over election.
However to have a fair and working solution the selection process must be backed up with a proper institution.
The institution must ensure survival of most learned and most experienced people.
Thus,
say at 18 a young man joins the institution and through the years is trained in religion and state affairs,
thus when he is senior enough, he may be given a ministry etc.
the system follows the army setup.
