Monday, January 27, 2014 - Islamabad—In a massive boost to Pakistan-Saudi historic relationships and renewed solidarity among Islamic nations Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz is likely to visit Pakistan by mid February. “This historic visit by the king will be a milestone in the relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia”, a source said.

Diplomatic sources are reluctant to confirm the date for King’s schedule visit but Pakistan Observer understands that the visit may take place in February. A high profile visit by Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain to China which was to take place on February 16, 2014 will be re-scheduled for a few weeks to honour and receive the Saudi guest of honor.

President Mamnoon Hussain had himself extended an invitation to the Saudi King on October 17, 2013 when he called on King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud in Jeddah. King Abdullah had accepted the invitation and had promised to visit Pakistan in shortest possible time.

According to officials King Abdullah’s visit to Pakistan at this crucial time would open a new chapter of brotherly cooperation between the two nations which have proved to be a long allies and all-weather friends. Officials say that at present Pakistan is faced with economic as well as security challenges and friendly states like Saudi Arabia can help Islamabad bail out of the fix.

Saudi King Abdullah last visited Pakistan on February 1, 2006 when both the then President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf and the then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz received the King at the Islamabad International Airport as a special gesture.

Saudi Arabian top officials have made it clear that the holy lands stands by Pakistan in all circumstances and will support it to meet economic and terrorism threats.

Even before the expected visit of the King of Saudi Arabia, yet another important Saudi official, Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz will arrive in Islamabad by next week to formulate collaboration between the two nations on security and other important issues.

Saudi Arabia Interior Minister is scheduled to hold talks with Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and other officials for an understanding on security, human trafficking, smuggling and extradition of prisoners and wanted people.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reviewed defence relationship during the visit of Saudi Deputy Defence Minister Prince Salman Bin Sultan only last week which took place within a few weeks of another high-profile visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on January 6, 2014.
