Both Pakistan and KSA are coming into their own, as far strategic foreign relations are concerned. Like mature states, we follow our own foreign policy priorities while supporting each other wherever our interests align.

Some people would argue that historically KSA has been the big brother in this relationship because of their wealth, and because they control the land where Islam originated. And that may well have been the case.

But over the last few years, Pakistan has openly pursued a more neutral position on many matters, including the Yemen war, and relations with Turkey, Qatar and China. Most importantly, there is a greater realization among Pakistanis that while Pakistan has greatly and repeatedly benefited from KSA's monetary largesse, it has not been a one way street.

Pakistan has contributed greatly to KSA's military development, and the security of the country through the stationing of boots on the ground, and declared guarantees of protection of its territorial integrity.

Even the employment of 3 million Pakistanis, and their remittances is of mutual benefit. Those 3 million Pakistani do not get paid for nothing. They contribute immensely to the Saudi economy and society. For one thing, the Saudis have a greater sense of familiarity and comfort with Pakistanis (as opposed to Indians, Filipinos, etc) because of our religion. Secondly, Saudis realize that they can't simply kick out the Pakistanis and replace them with Indians or Bangladeshis easily. Many Pakistanis have been there for years and decades, and know exactly what is expected of them, and know the culture, and how the system works. That is something that cannot be easily taught to a new group of people.

Before you say that Pakistan is the big brother, consider the help the Saudis have provided, and more importantly, its timing. Saudi help has come at the most difficult times - when the country was new, when its security was at risk, and financial help was needed to develop a nuclear deterrent, when it was isolated after the nuclear tests, when the rampaging Soviets were knocking at our doors, and when the economy was at the brink of collapse two years ago. It would be indicative of an absolute lack of class and grace for Pakistan to forget all of that.

All this to say that the relationship between Pakistan and KSA is that of partners. We are here to support and help each other - wherever, and whenever we can. And we should be mature enough to be understanding of each other at times when internal and external compulsions prevent us from supporting each other.

Looks like the KSA has got a Deep State too!!! They can't afford an internal upheaval due to the "official" recognition of Israil, which has the potential to take the "motivation" to a completely different level! At that end they might have needed some assurances from the Pak Deep State....

Well said. the most of the saudi people are a diametric opposite of their government and the government knows it. emiratans have always been laxed and relaxed in religion compared to the saudis so they probably wouldn't rise up against their emir the way the saudi masses would which, frankly, is EXACTLY what the isrealis and the americans were aiming for...watching the holy lands fall into a complete civil war like chaos because of recognizing isreal.

This is all crap. If they are so against the atrocities against Palestinian then how come UAE who is a strategic partner of KSA started relationship with Isreal. And why is almost all its neighbour's are in talk with Isreal. Bharian Oman UAE all are in the same block and KSA is considered their leader. How come all are on the way of starting diplomatic relation with Isreal and KSA is quite on this issue.
Mark my words this news will come without anyone knowing. Just like this UAE news. Their is an internal rift in Saudi royal family but the reason is not Isreal its the crown. MBS has eliminated almost all the competion and is in process of changing their entire image. He will accept Isreal and he don't care what other thinks as far as USA is happy.

agreed. they really need to get past the hatred of Turks. there is a large percentage of the saudi population that has turk blood. but isreal will try to capitalize on this hatred and needs to be defeated with intelligence and wisdom without letting all hell break loose.

I think it is high time Pakistan and Turkey both join their intelligence forces in taking the fight to the isreali heartland. they need to suffer from widespread political strife and upheaval, a "jewish spring" if you will.

No diplomatic ties with Israel without Palestinian peace: Saudi Arabia

The UAE last week became the first Gulf state to normalise relations with Israel, in a historic US-brokered accord that raised the prospect of similar deals with other Arab states.

Saudi Arabia has said it will not follow the United Arab Emirates in establishing diplomatic ties with Israel until the Jewish state has signed an internationally recognised peace accord with the Palestinians.

The UAE last week became the first Gulf state to normalise relations with Israel, in a US-brokered accord that raised the prospect of similar deals with other Arab states including Saudi Arabia.

But after days of conspicuous silence and in the face of US pressure to announce a similar deal, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan ruled out the possibility until the Palestinian issue is resolved.


"Peace must be achieved with the Palestinians" on the basis of international agreements as a pre-condition for any normalisation of relations, Prince Faisal told reporters during a visit to Berlin.

"Once that is achieved all things are possible," he added, in a comment that was consistent with Saudi Arabia's previous stance on the issue.

Saudi Arabia has long maintained this public stance even as it has cultivated clandestine relations with Israel in recent years, in a shift spearheaded by de facto leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Prince Faisal's remarks are the kingdom's first official reaction since the UAE's landmark deal with Israel, which is only the third such accord the Jewish state has struck with an Arab country after Egypt and Jordan.

At a news conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, Prince Faisal reiterated criticism of Israel's "unilateral policies" of annexation and building settlements in the occupied West Bank as "illegitimate" and "detrimental" to a two-state solution.

'Biggest constraint'

Until now, Saudi Arabia had maintained a notable silence over the deal even as local officials hinted that Riyadh was unlikely to immediately follow in the footsteps of the UAE, its principal regional ally.


Amping up US pressure on the kingdom, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner insisted on Monday that it would be in Riyadh's interest to formally establish ties with Israel.

Further putting the kingdom in the spotlight, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said Israel was working on opening a corridor over Saudi Arabia for flights to the UAE.

But Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's biggest economy and home to Islam's holiest sites, faces more sensitive political calculations than the UAE.

Not only would a formal recognition of Israel be seen by Palestinians and their supporters as a betrayal of their cause, it would also hurt the kingdom's image as the leader of the Islamic world.

"The notion that Saudi Arabia will be next to normalise relations with Israel was far-fetched," said Aziz Alghashian, a lecturer at Essex University specialising in the kingdom's policy towards Israel.

"The biggest constraint for Saudi-Israeli normalisation is not the fear of a domestic and regional backlash.

"Rather, Saudi Arabia deems it necessary to not normalise relations outside the framework of the Arab Peace Initiative that called for resolving the Palestinian issue, if it still wants to be seen as the leader of the Muslim and Arab world," Alghashian told AFP.


In 2002 Saudi Arabia sponsored the Arab Peace Initiative, which called for Israel's complete withdrawal from the Palestinian territories occupied after the Six-Day War of 1967, in exchange for peace and the full normalisation of relations.

But a shared animosity towards Iran, along with Saudi attempts to attract foreign investment to fund Prince Mohammed's ambitious Vision 2030 economic diversification plan, appear to be pushing the kingdom closer to Israel than ever.

In 2018 Riyadh quietly opened its airspace for the first time for an Israel-bound passenger plane.

Riyadh has also pursued a bold outreach to Jewish figures in recent years, even as it appears wary of a public backlash.
