Saudi Arabia unveils new strategic drone program ‘Saqr 1’

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has unveiled in Riyadh a new strategic drone program called “Saqr 1”.



KACST President Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed stressed the highly advanced techniques used in this aircraft. He stated that Saqr 1 is equipped with a ka satellite communication system that gives superiority and privilege to this aircraft.

It can fly for a range of more than 2,500 kilometers with the ability to carry missiles and guided bombs with laser system and launch from different heights from 500 to 6000 km and a range of up to 10 km with an accuracy of less than 1.5 m.

The UAV is capable of flying at an average altitude of 20,000 feet and has a flight time of 24 hours.

It is 500 to 6000 m according to the original article, not km that is impossible: 6000km missile range ICBM!?

Obviously it is a mainstream news once again reporting inaccurate news. It should obviously be from a 500 to 6000 meter height range. Arabic news is in general very bad at reporting military matters.

Some reports had it right saying 500 to 6000 m.. so most likely a typo mistake, but there should be some proofreading IMO..

Saqr 1 has two versions
(Falcon 1A) This version is unarmed
(Used for training Saudi cadres during the past six years)

And (Saqr 1B) armed version
(Equipped with a process room, a first-generation developed system with satellite connectivity and the ability to carry missiles and laser-guided bombs)

As for the (Falcon 1C)
"The work is being done on the third generation of this aircraft and the manufacture of four aircraft and an operating room ending in 2018."

As long as they can produce this drone independently, I don't care. This is how defense industry works.

The "genealogy" of the Turkish Altay tank is a typical example.
