Saudi Arabia: Turkey the first guest of honor at the Armed Forces Exhibition "AFD 2018"

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced that Turkey will be the first guest of honor at the Armed Forces Fair to Support Local Manufacturing "AFED 2018" in its fourth session, scheduled to be held from 25 February to 3 March 2018.

This came in the words of Major General Engineer Attia Al-Maliki, Director of the General Directorate to support the local manufacturing of the Saudi Armed Forces, which plans to launch the exhibition under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

The official SPA news agency quoted al-Maliki as saying that the "AFED 2018" in its fourth session is hosting for the first time a guest of honor represented by the Republic of Turkey. "

He pointed out that the aim is to "provide the opportunity for the Turkish industrial companies to present their products and requirements and to partner with their counterparts from the Saudi side to contribute to the transfer and localization of technology and benefit from manufacturing opportunities to meet the need of raw materials and spare parts manufactured locally to achieve economic return of both sides."

He explained that the aim of hosting Turkey is also "to exchange research experiences between the scientific centers of the two countries to support and develop the outputs of local manufacturing to achieve self-sufficiency.

According to the Saudi official, there will be participation by high-level speakers from the Turkish side in the lectures and workshops associated with the exhibition "AFED" to showcase the Turkish experience and expertise in the field of manufacturing, transfer and localization of technology.

For his part, the Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Eng. Ahmed Al Rajhi, said that the exhibition aims to localize and support local manufacturing and develop the contribution of local companies in the industry to raise the level of local industry in the national economy to achieve the vision of the Kingdom (2030).

Al Rajhi explained that the exhibition "carries many investment opportunities for the private sector and before that is an important tributary to serve our armed sectors, which we are proud of, and that the private sector is keen to contribute to the promotion of products and manufacturing needs of the military sectors where the number of items required to manufacture at this exhibition represent 100000 opportunities."

The Armed Forces Exhibition to Support Local Manufacturing (AFED 2018) is scheduled to be held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, under the theme "Our Industry, Our Strength".

Alliances are short term in the Middle East, atleast for now. Either way, Turkey is the only Muslim country that is capable of producing and developing a wide range of products in the Defence Field to acceptable standards.

Being in NATO does not grant you any extra privilages, they share training methods and intelligence but not techincal know-how. Turkey has invested smartly in Industry unlike middle eastern oil barrons. When buying anything that isn't urgent, Turkey gives only one option. High offset, 50% is produced in Turkey or NO DEAL. Over time that offset has developed into know how and that know how producing products that are competing with the heavyweights.. Give it another 10 years and Turkish Defence Industry mature to and beyond Israeli Industry.

Please stop with that story that nato give us weapon tech, they gave us the ability to develope parts. Some off set agreements to produce some of the weapons parts, not the faking whole weapon. So we could get it cheaper, when it comes to critical compenents like radar or missile they give you nothing.

In the past they offered licence production now they are coming with share partners. Nobody is giving you a thing, go work harder maybe you will achieve it to.

If you have interest come and look for example the latest submarine project, we can build a lot of the submarine but the critical parts like the feul cell. They don't give you the tech ask the germans. We have started a project for a feul cell, go start a project someday you will make your own weapon.

Well, let us see what this will end up with as long as the Qatari regime lover (the failed MB project comes to mind) Erdogan is in power. However business is business and if it benefits KSA I am all for it especially after the inclusion of obligatory ToT and local production (or a degree of both or one of the options) from KSA's side.

In any case if this somehow fails, we have many other options, ongoing as well as future ones, but I do not think that it will fail if there is mutual benefit.
