Saudi Arabia Seeks Up to $8 Billion Loan

You don't know anything about SA. They have huge proven reserves of many things. They can use all these resources for next 500 years without doing anything.
really?? Do you think then can keep building the worlds tallest skyscraper and a city around it while spending millions for shiny toys and to feed a army that still can't crush houthis even with a grand alliance of similar countries with shiny toys while funding the rebels in Syria and anti-Iranian proxies as well as Wahabi groups?

Nope I don't think so.

Seriously though, KSA will eventually have to change it's economic policies. It cannot continue its unaffordable subsidies, it must start taxing it's populatio

I don't think the Saudi monarchy will last that long if they do that

I don't think the Saudi monarchy will last that long if they do that
I also think that the Saudis will EVENTUALLY have to transition into a constitutional monarchy, if the royal family wants to survive.

How about not spending so much money on a war you can't seem to win? I mean, that's at least $3 dollars right there, you can probably buy like 9 samosas for that.

Seriously though, KSA will eventually have to change it's economic policies. It cannot continue its unaffordable subsidies, it must start taxing it's population.

Why? Just because you like sheep are paying taxes through your nose, the rest of the sane world has to do it too?
When you have the natural resources / mineral wealth to sustain your self then why?

It would be best if you stuck to figuring out how many samosas you can buy after you've paid your taxes!

I'm actually glad you brought up the natural resources...

If you're talking about oil, it's clear that not only will it run out eventually, but the currently level of production is not enough to sustain the current Saudi life style. Neither are prices going to go back to the levels we saw in the last decades.

Taxes aren't about fucking the little guy, it's about increasing government revenue. The way the Saudis live, it's simply unsustainable.

Well to you it might be unsustainable. But it seems they don't agree with you, and neither does any other sane person.

Anyways what you have presented is poor logic. IF they can afford to run their govt without taxes, then why should they start taxing people today? Obviously, whenever the oil runs out there will be taxes. BUT taxing people today, when you have an abundance of resources, is simply day light robbery. People living in regimes where they are being taken for a ride are not expected to understand that.

Free education? Free health care? A basic income plan coming along the way? I'm so being taken for a ride. I'm such a sheep, baaaa baaaaa.

Seriously though, I'm not the only one saying this, and the Saudis are doing nothing to prepare their economy for when the time comes, that their economy can no longer depend on oil. Most conservative estimates give the Saudis 50-60 more years, when they will face an oil crisis, that's not a long time.

Buddy, you don't even know how silly you look posting such childish comments. You have yet to present a logical answer to the question:
"IF a country can cover its financial commitments via natural / mineral resources, then why should it tax it's citizens???"

First of all, my comments have been quite consistent, and I'm only answering the way you're replying.

I never said it should do it right away, I said it needs to eventually do so, Because those natural resources are running out. KSA needs to prepare for the post-oil Saudi realm, and needs to have the mechanics in place for a smooth transition.

One of the solutions that the Saudis have suggested and have been trying to implement for decades now, is solar and wind plants on a massive scale to rival their oil production and consumption. Unfortunately, these plans have never gone anywhere.

You need quit embarrassing yourself. You have been harping how "NOT taxing people is unsustainable" - a clueless opinion at best.

VAT is scheduled by 2018 across the GCC, although we (UAE), might push it off for a couple of years.

Solar is already on the move:

You have my hearth felt sympathies. Please continue making clueless statements.

Problem is not money its the socio economic system which is now being hit .Regarding Taxes there is goinf to be VAT Very soon probably 2017 ,point remains Will Saudi Arabia has certain means to diversify its economy .I leave it to experts as this is a big question its not going to happen over a night you need people/expertise/professionals so its quite complicated .In short run this measure will work hoepfully

.
Really? Are you really gonna continue to be hostile? Fine, two can play it that game.

First of all, try and use your brain, and read the entire context. Don't cherrypick, like a moron. The only one embarrassing themselves here is you.

I'm talking specifically KSA, not the entire GCC or even the UAE. Or are you suggesting that the UAE is a subject of KSA?

Except that those projects are nowhere near enough to the levels that were suggested. 10MW-500MW projects, these are nowhere near enough to cover even a nth amount of KSA's needs.

Hardly 1000MW, and it's taken them decades to even get to this point. After all that talk about having 10,000-50,000MWs by 2020, they've only covered around 1%.

Puh-lease. If you wanna be taken seriously, at least read your own sources.

The Saudis were suppose to invest over $100 billion in solar, but they've kept delaying it. I think they delayed it by 8-10 years, just last year.

Next time, keep things civil, and don't talk in such a rude manner. Calling other people sheep, and saying they're being taken for a ride; ridiculous.

With these posts you are just proving to the world how dumb you really are. You can sit howl and cry, that an un-taxing regime is "unsustainable," because you yourself have to pay taxes through your nose. You are beginning to look like the typical indian, better shape up!

VAT - I mentioned UAE because VAT was supposed to be implemented across the GCC simultaneously, but you opened your mouth and showed how clueless you really are. THANKS!!!

Saudi Solar- What they are doing, are not doing, how does it effect you? They are working on nuclear as well, maybe solar is NOT their priority. Who are you to dictate, or question how they produce energy? Oh I forgot, your that "nobody" freezing his behind off looking at mooses, and paying taxes through his nose to look at mooses.!!

Keep it up Mr. Nobody, you're looking good!!

Next time don't go crying around why people aren't paying taxes, it's not like you have to pay for them!

Talking sense would help!!!

You know, I use to have a bit of respect for you, but your constant insults prove just ow misplaced my respect was. Instead of addressing my points, you keep on insulting me, and repeating yourself.

Using logical fallacies, like strawman, won't get you anywhere. it just goes to makes my point look more valid.

VAT - I mentioned UAE because VAT was supposed to be implemented across the GCC simultaneously, but you opened your mouth and showed how clueless you really are. THANKS!!!
Again, completely ignored what I said.

We're on an internet forum, we can talk about what we like, as long as it doesn't break forum rules. The topic is about KSA's economy, and their solar power projects are linked to their economy, thus why it was brought up.

Insulting me won't get you anywhere, it just makes you look like a child.

Keep it up Mr. Nobody, you're looking good!!

VAT was supposed to implemented simultaneously across the GCC. The UAE announced 1st Jan 2018. But as per my conversation with @Indus Falcon & his boss, there is no final confirmation.. So if the UAE postpones it, so could other GCC members.

On the other hand the 5% VAT might go down, which could present a different scenario all together.

As to the Saudi issue, you are right, it's not about money, but socio-economic development.

Besides Oil they have other mineral wealth they can bank on and postpone taxes at the cost of giving haters heartburn

You have no valid points only your silly baseless "opinions" which in the real world carry "zero" weight.

Keep it up. I'm done talking to a nobody.
