King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) is localizing techniques for guided short-range ballistic missiles and multi-purpose bombs, according to Dr. Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Hussan, the General Supervisor of Special Programs and Supervisor of the Aerospace Research Institute City.

The team, which oversees the three projects of the city, recently announced that "Matar 2", "Matar 3" and "Matar 4" missiles, consisting of 40 Saudi engineers, are working on transferring experience and success of the series of experiments, adding that "There is interest and help from the work of international companies to contribute to the transfer and localisation of technology to Saudi Arabia".

He pointed out the success of the city in conducting a series of experiments and tests on the three projects. He pointed out that the transfer and localisation of missile and bomb technology transfer projects have been an extension of the city's projects in the transfer and localisation of technologies that constitute value added and achieve sustainable development in line with the National Transformation 2020 program, emanating from the Kingdom's "Vision 2030".

Al-Hussan confirmed that the use of the "Matar 3" and "Matar 4" and the bomb "MARK84" and "Matar 2", is characterized by high efficiency, using modern technology, pointing out that the missiles can be launched from ground platforms or from helicopters and unmanned aircrafts, they are also used for defense systems in land, sea and air.

In particular details, the short-range Matar 4 missile is guided by laser technology and operates with a solid fuel engine. It features a speed of up to Mach 1.2, it has a length of 1 meter,a diameter of 178 mm and a weight of 50 kilograms with an explosive load of 10 kilograms and ten kilometers It can be launched from a ground-to-ground or air-to-ground platform, from helicopters for example.

The Saqr-1 UAV system uses one of the most modern laser-based missiles to track the target by laser beams reflected from the target, and has been designed for several purposes, including as an anti-tank weapon.

The Matar 3 is a short-range ballistic missile powered by a solid fuel engine featuring an ultrasonic speed of "Mach 2", with a length of 1.75 m, a diameter of 100 mm, a weight of 26 kg, an explosive capacity of 4 kilograms and a range of 12 kilometers, a ground-to-ground missile, it can be launched from a multi-missile platform, and can be used as an air-to-ground missile by unmanned aerial vehicles. The main systems that make up the Matar 3 missile system is a launcher, rocket engine, shell, and altimeter sensor with a launch control box.

With regard to multi-purpose bombs, Al Madina has developed the MARK84 bomb project through the transfer and localisation of the MK84 multi-purpose free fall projectiles. The city has improved its performance by installing a solid-fuel rocket engine, guidance systems and wings to control the Air movement to increase lethality, accuracy and range.

The Mark 84 is a multi-purpose, unmanned, unguided bomb that is part of a series of 80 Mark's most common bombs. The bomb weighs 2039 pounds (925 kilograms), including 945 inches (429 kilograms) of high explosive material.

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) recently offered a package of military and security projects during its participation in the Armed Forces Exhibition to Support Local Manufacturing (AFED 2018) at its fourth session organized by the Ministry of Defense at Riyadh International Exhibition and Convention Center. In its pavilion, the city presented the technologies that were relocated and settled in Saudi Arabia.

During the exhibition, the city revelled 40 technical projects that highlighted its efforts in the transfer and development of the Kingdom's important technologies in the fields of space and aviation, satellites, rocket production, electronics and communications, water and energy, innovation and industry, and advanced materials.

There was an introduction of capacity specialists of the Innovation Center for Industry 4, which provides support services in the areas of infrastructure and capacity enhancement, advisory services in the fields of performance improvement, training and engineering, technical and administrative development, utilization of industrial and engineering tools and programs, Structuring, providing investment opportunities in coordination with companies, access to the latest technologies in the industrial and engineering field and their experience, and provides product development service.

Ongoing creation of a nuclear infrastructure (20 + nuclear power plants ready by 2035-2040) as well as local manpower (nuclear engineers) within the country being formed (since some time ago - at least 10-15 years), uranium excavation inside KSA ongoing and now this.:agree:

Something is brewing and being cooked. A nice dish, I believe.:enjoy:

hope it for Israel and not for Yemen or Iran.

It will be against all potentially hostile entities and serve as a deterrent.

In Yemen KSA along with numerous Arab countries is helping the Yemeni government and military combating Houthi terrorist cultists and 90% of Yemen has been liberated. Rest will follow.

KSA does not need or plan to invade any country or annex it. We have enough of land (12th largest country in the world and the largest in the region by far) and a more resource rich country than 90% of all countries worldwide. The ancestors of modern-day Saudi Arabians had our conquests (numerous on 3 continents) already. Our legacy is living in this regard. One "little" example of this is my avatar.

Focus is internal hence the many promising reforms on all fronts in KSA under MBS in the past 2 years and this is just the beginning.

No Chance at all.

"ultrasonic ballistic missile"... range 12 kilometres! Weight 26 kg!:lol:

That is NOT a ballistic missile at all.

It is almost certainly an imported/license built FT-10 UAV-launched missile, which weighs about the same at 25 kg.

It will be against all potentially hostile entities and serve as a deterrent.

This is not a deterrent.

Do you even know what a "beginning" is? KSA has never before really focused on missile technology. And do you seriously think that everything is made public in KSA of all countries? Anyone even remotely familiar with KSA will know that this is never the case.

Nobody is impressed by your firecrackers based on North Korean/Ukrainian/USSR tech that you have stolen and slightly modified after decades of work (lol). Let's talk in 40 years time. I am sure that KSA will develop something much more potent that what you have been able to do in 40 years time.

Starting small.. it is a requirement.. Ballistic I might agree.. it is just a missile for now.. but the technology is there.. Solid fuel, engines, guidance...etc.. these 3 short range missiles are 100% made in KSA with some external ToT of course.. nevertheless, made completely locally..

Whatever you say Nostradamus. Let me guess, your knowledge about this topic is as great as my knowledge about barber shops in Pakistan.

You will be in for a surprise.
Pretty much same every they are in world, you go in a guy shaves or trimms your facial hairs and Cut your Hairs and you pay him back.
It simply requires more then money, which KSA can't have in two decades with partial foreign hands, if they work for it without hesitation and full foreign support may be a decade.

KSA has need of home grown Ballistic Missiles but US wouldn't let it happen, then best option for KSA is Space Rockets.Duel Use Tech;)

I was talking by 2035-2040 and KSA becoming a nuclear threshold state. Very realistic if not expected. Money is not a problem for KSA and won't be given that KSA's economy is predicted to remain in the top 20 by 2050 and in fact grow by 400-500% as per all economic predictions.

By 2035-2040 KSA will have one of the largest nuclear infrastructures in the world and an experienced and numerous (compared to know) nuclear engineering corps. It's all about political will. I see a clear deliberate pattern and I have no reason to doubt my predictions.

You mean, just like when KSA did one of the largest secret deals in modern-day history with the likes of China in the 1980's or nowadays where KSA has signed a deal with Russia for the S-400 and possibly partial local production and some kind of tech transfer as the state policy of KSA nowadays.

The notion that US allies are somehow under the mercy of the US, in particular a country like KSA with its substantial political, religious, economic clout, is hilarious. Might be the case for the likes of Estonia or say Qatar but KSA in this day and age? Nah. Evidence of this time and time again.

None is obsessed with Israel like Pakistanis.
Countries look after their own benefits and trade markets.
Pakistan look out for ummah chumma!

Maybe because we are not short sighted !
