Saudi Arabia: Aiming toward a knowledge-based economy

You cant just become knowledge based society by simply going to university.
Intel not going to hand you over all the patent so that you can just design the chip and outsource the manufacturing in China.

A continuous step up process will lead a nation to a knowledge based society.

1) Agro - R&D and gain knowledged
2) Manufacturing - R&D and gain knowledge
3) Heavy Industry - R&D and gain knowledge.
4) Knowledge Based economy - Further enhance the knowledge which is gained from 1, 2, and 3 and implementation.

So skipping 1,2,3 in the process will lead to nowhere.

For 1,2,3 you need to go to schools and Universities. R&D is done by graduates not by farmers, laborers and machine operator. The fusion is done through entrepreneurs.

So for creating knowledgeable and competent graduates, one country needs to have better education system with highly capable teaching faculties.

Nehru started IITs because he thought for Indians to make strides in technology , we need world class technical universities. This is how you change the country.

Good step...use the money from oil in other sector while you have. Lamborghinis won't provide jobs. Private universities by Sheikhs can turn around entire education system.

I wish :'(... But I will settle with a working car for now in my case.

I did not say you can do with without University.

But tell you the truth, University teaches the knowledge which is gained in the real time implementation of 1,2 and 3.

If your economy wants to just skip 1,2,3 and invest all money in the university then you will only gain published existing knowledge not the break through.

It just does not work that way.

You may just wish to do 1,2,3,4 simultaneously but I am afraid you cant do that.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that Saudi cannot become one, but it would be a tall order. As I was saying in my previous post, competition is the key. And Saudi society is not that competitive.

look dear if they reduce 1% yearly then . oil in saudi will run out after 82 years so they will have 0% depend on oil 5 years before oil run out .now be happy ?

I have talked to Saudi people in UK. From my little experience, I thought you King might be a problem, he does not really care about development, just want to preserve the power and let the people happy. Arabs used to make great history and now you are an oil power, keep going. I think China will get some opportunities from the rise of Middle East. Can anybody tell me the relationships between Saudi and Egypt ? My Egypt friend tells me a little trouble between you guys.

King Abdullah doesn't care about development?? Are you serious?? Just look at KSA before and after he took power and you will know what I mean. And our relations with Egypt is perfect. Just last week ee concluded a joint navy exercise and signed military cooperation deals with Egypt.
