This is also a sad reality. :agree:

But not as sad as 80% on less than half a dollar a day, when you think about how much that is - it is mind boggling, 50 cents a day - it hurts just thinking about the level of that poverty, that is why Ethiopians probably feel sorry for the poverty in india.

Congaratulations to the ace Indian Tennis player.Indian tennis will reach new height because of Somdev Devbarman & Sania Mirza. We should target for Wimbledon just like Li Na.

Nearly 80 percent of India lives on half dollar a day
Fri Aug 10, 10:08 AM ET
Seventy-seven percent of Indians -- about 836 million people -- live on less than half a dollar a day in one of the
world's hottest economies, a government report said.
The state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector (NCEUS) said most of those living
on below 20 rupees (50 US cents) per day were from the informal labor sector with no job or social security,
living in abject poverty.
"For most of them, conditions of work are utterly deplorable and livelihood options extremely few," said the
report, entitled "Conditions of Work and Promotion of Livelihoods in the Unorganized Sector," seen by Reuters
on Friday.

Again reality is sad for 80% of indians :(

Brings tears to ones eyes to think of that level of poverty, but it does not surprise me, have been to india and seen first hand that wretched country's poverty, and the dull eyes and the small stature of its people/

That not sad at all:azn: especially when a country has decided it will uproot poverty and become developed and is on the path of 8-9% growth for a good number of years to come.:)
What about you??????

Many Pakistani friends were over the moon, at the success of Li Na - we were very proud for our Chinese brothers and sisters. :china:

Maybe in the future, but right know as of June 2011 there is sickening poverty in your country, such that it makes one question the justice in the world, where some people have enough to eat, and some like many indians starve, it is heart breaking - and it surprises me that some indians better off simply do not give a fig.

He's a perfect example of a House Husband.

With all the privileges that entitles him to, he probably thinks he won the lottery, what with Sania's looks, her intelligence and her dollars.
All the indians here would give their arms and legs to be in his position, don't lie. ;)

Indians do give a fig that why we are economically prospering and developing. ::)

Does not matter, even with growth of 4.2% = we have less hunger and no where near 80% of our population on less than half a dollar a day.

Thats because your whole country is surviving on US aid. Take that away and lets see how well will you do.
