LAHORE: Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has admitted that the Government of Punjab does not have the capability to confront terrorists.

Speaking to SAMAA here on Tuesday, he said the provincial government does not have the technology, nor equipment needed to deal with the issue of militancy.

His comments come a week after two suicide bombers struck a Yaum-e-Ali procession in Lahore, killing 37 mourners. SAMAA

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Information Secretary Dr Fakhruddin Chaudhry on Sunday alleged that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was sheltering drug traffickers, land grabbers and terrorists, adding that the law minister be suspended.

During an emergency press conference held at the Lahore Press Club, he said that Sanaullah tried to sabotage the reconciliation policy of the federal government, adding that Sanaullah’s leaders were only paying taxes of Rs 800. Fakhruddin said that Sanaullah had been enjoying himself in Norway at the time of the attack at Karbala Gamay Shah.

He said that Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer had fulfilled his constitutional right by writing a letter to the Punjab chief minister in which he had disclosed that Sanaullah had close links with terrorists, but unfortunately the letter was not taken seriously.

He demanded the CM immediately take strict action against Sanaullah on “mentoring drug pushers, land mafia and terrorists”.

The lack of guns and men with guns is not the issue - the GoPu has thousands of Army trained Elite Force and QRF personnel at its disposal that can handle any sort raid, encounter or operation related activity - they have been deployed to take on terrorists in the various instances of hostage taking during the past two years.

The problem here is pretty much one of gathering the correct intelligence and the necessary will to handle these ops. Quite frankly tackling terrorism, given its links and networks throughout the country and even globally, needs to be a Federal issue. The majority of the QRF and Elite Force personnel should be deputized under the FIA/IB, and perhaps even the Punjab CID should be taken over by the Feds given their self-admitted incompetence and inability to do anything.

There is a need for a uniform response across the board, and while even Peshawar police and intelligence was able to pacify Peshawar and most of the NWFP (until the recent floods gave the terrorists another opportunity to strike back), Punjab Police and intelligence has failed miserably.

There is a lack of will and too many connections between extremists and PML-N politicians and PML-N appointed bureaucrats IMO.

Are you trying to say, PML-N and PPPP have a deal of regime share? which resulted in interior ministry not doing any thing with regard to terrorist attacks in within the boundaries of Punjab.... otherwise PML-N will topple the govt?

I wonder if it is the real deal or just your perception?
