The San Diego-based guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance joined the Indian navy Monday in anti-submarine warfare training in the Indian ocean.

The exercise included the Spruance, P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft from the VP-8 “Fighting Tigers” based in Jacksonville, and Indian Indian Navy P-8I aircraft from Indian Naval Station Rajali.

“The U.S. Navy is committed to engaging with regional partners in establishing common practices and developing mutual capabilities. Spruance is proud to exercise alongside the Indian Navy,” said Cmdr. Matthew Smidt, commanding officer of the Spruance.

“We were greatly impressed by the professionalism and competency” of the Indian patrol aircraft, he said. “The exercise was a wonderful experience and opportunity from which we learned and honed our skills.”

Lt. James Lowe, a pilot with VP-8, said the goal of the training is to “standardize our procedures so we can work more efficiently in future real-world operations.”

U.S. Navy ships and aircraft train routinely with the Indian navy between annual port visits and exercises like the annual Malabar. The Navy said these events reaffirm a shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region

It looks like India is increasingly realizing the importance of its navy to its status as a major power. Notice how the IN has been more active lately, not only in terms of military drills but also in humanitarian missions such as cyclone relief in Mozambique and assistance to Iranian fishing vessels in distress throughout the Arabian Sea.

When will IAF learn? haven't they already learnt the lesson? The navy started back in the 80's and have world class infrastructure to build ships, its still not late to start building your own planes rather than crying for foreign maal...

I honestly don't know why the IAF is so opposed to the Tejas, when literally every other air force that observed them in action is impressed with them. Unfortunately, corruption, cronyism, and bureaucracy have taken its toll on the IAF.

Fortunately, the Army, Navy, and Coast guard have been mostly free of these problems.

I honestly don't know why the IAF is so opposed to the Tejas, when literally every other air force that observed them in action is impressed with them. Unfortunately, corruption, cronyism, and bureaucracy have taken its toll on the IAF.

Fortunately, the Army, Navy, and Coast guard have been mostly free of these problems.

army has shown some interest in home grown artillery, and i hope baba kalyani gets some orders from them, i want Indian arms industry to kick start this new journey, we have lots of potential in the form of TATA, L&T, Bharat Forge, kalyani, Eicher, mahindra, reliance waiting for orders from the armed forces!!!! Private industries like L&T have shown the time lines they can achieve, they finished K9 vajra deliveries 2 months prior to the dead line...

Those cowards have just rescued thousands of people in Mozambique, just so you know.

Once during Zardari rule and second one during IK rule and during war time.

First of all, the sub was in international waters. And second of all, Pakistan was just bluffing when it said it could have sunk the sub, because it did not have the capability.

In times of war Pakistan had to shoot Indian subs, even when they are in American waters.
On ability, you can say anything because Pakistan actually did nothing to your sub, not once but twice.
