(Reuters) - Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd ended Nokia Oyj's 14-year leadership of the global cellphone market in the first quarter of the year, outselling the struggling Finnish handset maker for the first time ever, according to a Reuters poll of analysts.

The poll showed analysts on average expect Samsung to have sold 88 million cellphones in January through March, surpassing the 83 million which Nokia sold in the quarter.

Samsung's rise to the top was fueled by Chinese consumers, who bought the Galaxy to the iPhone at more than a 3:1 ratio.

No doubt Samsung has become much better manufacturer than Nokia. Nokia is a history now and I stopped using Nokia handsets since the iPhone 3G was introduced.

At the moment I am using Samsung Galaxy SII and switched back to Galaxy SII after being disappointed by the iPhone 4S which is 99% similar to the iPhone 4 and does not support Flash

Samsung became no.1 based on its strength in Chinese domestic market. Without the Chinese consumers who love Samsung more than Apple, Samsung would not have become the no. 1.

anyway, samsung has adapted the android and arm technologies very nincely to create a good cheap product. i recently ditched my iphone and bought an s2. waiting for s3.
