I too hope he gets the chair. This attempted murder (or what could end up being murder considering the severity of the injuries) won’t help win any arguments, especially combating Islamophobia in the western debates. This attack will only embolden Islamophobic bigots, and make a man that was slowly fading into obscurity, relevant again to a new generation.

I disagree on the assertion that this will have any significant effect on American Muslims. For one, considering the victim was born into a Muslim family, for most Americans this will seem like Muslim on Muslim violence.

This attack seemed to be part of a larger campaign by the Iranians to avenge the death of Soleimani.

I’m guessing, in a few days, we will probably find out there was some Iranian government hand or influence on this. The perpetrator wasn’t even born when the Iranian leader’s fatwa was originally written.

In middle school, my teachers assigned us to read on of Rushdie’s books, Haroon and the Sea of stories. Which he wrote after Satanic verses. Even at that age, I became aware of the controversy around satanic verses, but still read Haroon and the sea of stories with an open mind (I was confident in my faith and what I had been taught about Islam to hear out Rushdie). (Basically the book was an allegory of what he went through in 1989) honestly didn’t really care for the book, seemed pedestrian (the villains were called the “Chup walas” or something like that, but like I said I was a middle schooler so maybe some of it went over my head, and I guess Rushdie could only focus on one topic in the year after the fatwa.

Freedom of speech is not freedom to be an Islamophobe. Islamophobes will be dealt with accordingly wherever they are.

Watch jinn exorcism videos. I have seen explicit cursing of Allah, the Prophet, and the Quran in them, yet no one gets triggered. That means the attack on Rushdie is not religious, it has political basis, same reason Khashoggi was assassinated.

West generally has freedom of speech. If you find this intolerable you should move back to your country of origin. Even in Pakistan, the person who assassinated Punjab's governor on the accusation he committed blasphemy got the death sentence.

Im being a conspiracy theorist here, but I have a gut feeling this was done to derail any potential deal that may be signed by August 15th, by IRGC Intelligence. They don't want this nuclear deal.

I think this just happened. 30+ years after his novel "The Satanic Verses" which depicted the Prophet Mohammad in a terrible way and causing Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini to put a fatwa on his head, this might have something to do with it. Not sure of the details as this was just posted on Twitter.

This is a competition between people in Iran who want to pursue wealth, and other who want to pursue ideological expansion. If their is actually a direct link with this guy and the IRGC, it is practically a certainty that this attack was an attempt to de-rail a deal, timing is way too coincidental, by making it impossible for the Biden admin to sign anything with Iran.

Just 2 days ago, the EU had given Iran assurances that it will drop existing IAEA probes into past Iranian nuclear activity if it signs a deal, and Iran has up to August 15th to decide it. Otherwise the deal is dead.
