Pretty sure thats not it. Body has lactase enzyme which digest milk "sugar" lactose. Pasteurization has nothing to do with it. Its just rapid heatinga nd cooling of milk which kills bacteria inside the milk which are responsible for degrading it and causing food poisoning.

At 165 degrees F, most of the harmful bacteria (99%) are killed.. Boiling also kills some useful bacteria. You are probably talking about Salmonella, which is removed by low temp pasteurization. Boiling kills those bacteria too, which help in digestion..

Low temperature pasteurized milk is the best.. I don't know if we have any brand that sells low temperature treated milk in Pakistan. The shelf life of that milk is very less that's why companies don't produce low temp pasteurized milk.

In UAE, low temperature pasteurization is common.

Unfortunately, knowledge of Good Bacteria is not so widespread. Many mistakenly assume that Bacteria = BAD. Nevermind that our very bodies contain a mix of Good and Bad Bacteria.

Right, pasteurization is not harmful, it is UHT treatment that kills good bacteria too.

Unfortunately, knowledge of Good Bacteria is not so widespread. Many mistakenly assume that Bacteria = BAD. Nevermind that our very bodies contain a mix of Good and Bad Bacteria.

People are trying to tinker with stuff in wrong ways.

Good bacteria is not the only benefit, there are studies that showed that raw milk/ low temperature pasteurized milk protect against Asthma, Eczema and other allergies..

Another wild brained scheme. Idea is fine on paper but impossible to implement.

Here we have daily industry but at the same time, if we need local milk there are dairy farmers which we get directly from. I personally prefer fresh unpasturised milk.

Nopes, it removes most of the bacteria.. if not all of them. Problem is with the harmful substances/ chemicals, which are found in both open and packaged milk in Pakistan.

As for the plastic packets, I think the milk should be supplied in cardboard boxes to minimize pollution.

In terms of packaging milk used to be in glass. However glass containers were determined to be a hazard since litterers would enjoy smashing them EVERYWHERE. It was a nightmare. So almost every drink container (except liquor BTW) is now in plastic. I have to admit this has made our environment far far far more safer to walk in. So as much as plastic is a huge headache...it is far better than broken glass shards all over the place.

the large size containers (3.75liters) are always plastic bottles while the other sized ones are about 50/50 in rectangular plastic vs paper based containers.

yes. boiling is done; however when we make cheese, we do not boil it.

To be honest it is usually farmers who add such substance in Milk to transport them over long distance. Once added in Milk there is no way to remove it. I am guessing considering the demand of Milk companies fudge the test results and process even hazardous Milk. These farmers need to be provided with legal preservatives.

Infant formula product company kicks off local production

KARACHI: People in Pakistan are likely to get Morinaga Milk products at relatively cheaper prices as the company has begun local production.

NutriCo Morinaga Private Limited, a subsidiary of ICI Pakistan Limited, has commenced commercial production of infant formula products with an investment of over Rs5 million, stated a notice sent by the company to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.

“ICI Pakistan Limited is pleased to announce that effective from January 10, 2020, NutriCo Morinaga has commenced commercial operations of Morinaga infant and growing up formula products at its manufacturing facility in Sheikhupura, Punjab,” said the notification.

The facility possesses the capacity to produce 12,000 tonnes of the formula products per year.

Formula milk producers left in conundrum

NutriCo Morinaga, which was inaugurated on September 20, 2019, is a joint venture of ICI Pakistan, Morinaga Milk Japan and Unibrands Private Limited. The joint venture has invested Rs5.5 billion in the project.

“There has been no remarkable development in the food sector lately, instead the food companies are struggling badly on account of taxation,” said Next Capital MD Muzammil Aslam. “A year and a half ago, National Foods was active but it is not the case anymore.”

He added that ICI Pakistan was a hybrid company operating in different subfields of the food sector including agricultural feed, pharmaceutical products and animal vaccination, which was why it showed signs of growth during a period of economic slowdown.

He added that Morinaga’s local product would be a substitute for the company’s imported infant formula product, which was being imported into Pakistan for a long time.

PFA to ban marketing of infant formula

“This will be a relatively cheaper product, which will be affordable by the common man,” he said, adding that the imported product was well out of the common man’s reach.

He said the company may cut down nutrition in the locally produced product to some extent to curb the cost to a point where the common Pakistani could afford it.

Following the notice of commencement of local production, ICI Pakistan got a positive response from investors and its stock price closed at the upper lock.

• The sale of loose milk will be banned from 2022 and all dairy farms will be bound to sell pasteurized milk in plastic bags and bottles. This was revealed by the Additional Director General (ADG) Licensing and Resources of Punjab Food Authority (PFA), Shahid Inayat Malik.

Addressing an awareness seminar at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Shahid Malik said that the PFA’s aim is to bring all food-related businesses, bakery, wedding halls, restaurants etc into one category with a license so that they can be monitored transparently.
The ADG said that PFA has started a campaign to protect consumers from the adulterated milk. “The dairy farmers are advised to install pasteurizing plants and maintain cold chains to provide milk to the consumers,” he said.

He further stated that no business centre will be harassed in the name of inspection. Replying to a question, the ADG said that the license registration process has been simplified and complaints will be resolved in a timely manner.
RCCI President Saboor Malik, in his address, said that the PFA’s measures have provided protection to consumers and provide them with quality goods.

However, Punjab Food Authority has to increase its capacity to reduce fines and simplify procedures, adding “Information leaflets for campaign awareness should be given at every business center in Urdu language,” he said.

Currently, Pakistan is amongst the five largest dairy-producing countries in the world, yet unfortunately, 95 percent of the milk traded in Pakistan is sold as loose milk, most of which is unhygienic or adulterated and is not providing the masses with the required nutrition.

It worth mentioning that European standards had been implemented in the milk sector since 2013 all over Turkey. As a result, the milk yield has been increasing in the Asian country. Pakistan needs to adopt similar international dairy standards
