Record is a recognition of his performance, he performs, he creates records. His nation, his team wanted him to perform and he did. Is it his mistake that he broke most of the cricketing records? He never let down his team? Failures and success are part and parcel of entire sports community.

Surely he can still play for the records- but BCCI wont let him anymore-

BCCI was even reluctant to tell him clearly unlike in cases of laxman or dravid.This was his status but he was signaled indirectly or directly...who knows..we are just here assuming.Even he had not scored well in last test matches and if we go through your logic then he should be retired from test too....so you are assuming just ..

Not forced to retire, he wrote to BCCI not to consider him for the selections before the meeting.

New squad yet to be announced. But I wanted him to announce his his retire before any series.
