Highlights
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to conclude "important bilateral agreements" when they meet on Saturday
  • The meeting between the two comes in the backdrop of the the first ever joint Russia-Pakistan military exercise recently
Cooperation in key areas of security, defence and trade will be discussed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin hold talks on Saturday after which the two sides are expected to conclude "important bilateral agreements".

Announcing Putin's four-day visit to Goa from October 14 to 17, external affairs ministry said besides attending BRICS Summit on Sunday, he would also hold 17th Indo-Russia Annual Summit where the leaders will review the entire gamut of bilateral ties including the progress made since their last Summit meeting in Moscow in December 2015.

"Important bilateral agreements are expected to be concluded and a joint statement released at the end of the Summit," the ministry said.

It also comes at a time when India is undertaking large-scale defence modernisation programme involving replacing old Russian equipment with modern ones from the country itself and from other nations.

Besides discussions to boost cooperation in crucial areas of defence, security and trade, the two leaders will exchange views on regional and international issues.

Some of the most important defence deals currently under discussion are purchase of 5 S-400 'Triumf' long-range air defence missile systems, Kamov-28 helicopters and upgradation of the Sukhoi 30-MKIs.

Another project under focus would be the long pending joint development of the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA).

India is also looking at leasing an Akula-class nuclear submarine from Russia.

The ministry said given that the year 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a number of commemorative celebrations are planned.

What's the estimated Per unit cost of FGFA ?

Nothing special should be expected from this meet. Indian Ambassador words in Moscow are not very encouraging.

India may delay buying these.

I don't think Modi and Putin would hold talks for four days if there wasn't some kind of deal at the end. Details are negotiated by underlings while leaders worry about the big picture. Let's wait to see what happens.

Tu rehne de bhai pakistan ke budget mein nahi aata :p:

Achawww G ?

Pehle bat to ye kay "knowledge" naami b koi cheez hoti hay bhai. hasil karne chaahye.

dosre baat, Agar Pakistan 600 million $ /unit kay 8 submarines khareed sakta hay to 150 million $ kay 36 "urran vemaan" q nahe ? there is a difference between having "less money" and having " no money". we have less money bhaaya.

Wesy b Pakistan kay FGFA kharedne kay imkanat utne he hay jitne apky decent behaviour apnaane kay. Qunky discussion J-31 pay chal rahe hay already .

So ab agle dafa sawal kia jaye to taunt nahe karna,, ulti b parh sakti hay bhai. Cheers

I hope we get some news of the S-400 and other military deals this time. Their last meeting was a damp squib, even the body language between Modi and Putin was poor.

@PARIKRAMA can probably answer that.

Its not possible to calculate the price of an incomplete product or service ...its in development phase ....so in the end cost of development has huge impact on the price

So its not possible to calculate the price other any numbers might be a wild guess.

Back in 2010's when this deal was publicized, it was supposed to be $6 billion (for India and Russia each) for the entire project at the end of which about 166 single seater and 48 twin seater aircraft would be procured by India. However, for projects like these, it is extremely difficult to put a price per unit until all the development is complete and the economies of scale is then calculated.

so 6 billion for 166 single seat + 48 twin seaters you do the math

BS Logic.

There is a reason ( Hint : Price ) why USA could only afford 189 F22s even with 800 BUSD Budget.

The PAK FA is still in the development phase. It's difficult to ascertain the per unit cost of the FGFA because some of the subsystems are still in development or haven't matured yet. Only when they enters the mass production you can estimate the unit cost of the subsystems.
Even then a sukhoi T-50 produced in Russia will be cheaper to Russia then it will be to the other countries hence if India installs a local assembly line FGFA will become cheaper to us. Also India will commit 4 billion dollars to the joint development of the FGFA so the more units we orders the cheaper the per unit cost will be(economy of scale).:D
