What's new

Russian progress in Donbas is faster than American progress in Iraq and Syria

'Now' is too late though, Russia caught Europe unware and that was part of their strategy. Nothing beats sudden invasion of an unprepared opponent.
Well, Russia didnt exactly invade the Europe Im talking about. They invaded Ukraine. Europe was unprepared, misguided by some strange idea that trade would with Russia would keep it in place. Yet its been obvious Russia has been rearming the last decades, while Europe has been disarming blinded by the idea that war was history, eventhough Putin became more and more hostile retorically speaking.

Its not to late in the sense Russia will not dare cross the NATO line, but countries outside NATO are at risk, because NATO countries have this idea that Russia is dangerous and hesitate whenever Putin lifts an eyebrow.
I believe we might aswell deploy everything we have to Ukraine, call it protection, and let Putin worry about the consequences if they start a war with NATO.

.
Yet Russia is losing.
How is Russia losing when Ukraine is the one losing 400-800 men per day? ARE YOU DUMB? (pop Smoke voice)
Isn't it funny?
u think Ukranians being turned into minced meat by Russian artillery is funny? smh
Russians have become laughing stock of the world.
Russia or Ukraine?? Why so many developing countries increase trade with Russia after the war started?

.
Russia has once again intimidated all of its neighbours into one side. Nato is set to more than double its border with Russia when Finland and Sweden join which has even bigger implications in locking Russia in the Baltic Sea isolating their navy even more. f35s the most advanced American fighter are being exported to Russia’s borders from Canada to Norway in a historic boom and even other jets like F16 are being traded within NATO like to Romania. Germany who is usually the other major power on the continent after 70 years of sleeping just launched a $100 billion rearmament program and aim to fill all their depleted weapon and ammunition stocks as well as be prepared for actual mobilization.

Apart from the economic front where Russia seems to have beaten western sanctions with it’s currency at a 7 year high, even if they win half of Ukraine there is no way this can be a strategic victory. Think about it. They are boxed in from all sides now in the sea and the air, they’ve justified NATO’s existence (who are now busier than ever doing NATO sh*t). A permanent shift in trade partners from west to east is the only option left for Russia
The thing is, Russia is not beating Western Sanction and its currency is at 7 years high.

Russia have to pop up their currency because they can't allow to collapse (if it does, the government collaspe) that is what they are doing at the moment. That value is manually adjusted by limiting how much forex you can exchange in Russia. That is not what we called a free float value. Because yes, it's 1 USD to 56 Rouble, but you won't be able to open a USD account or have it convert to USD which make it pointless. All those trade are done within the government (to prop the government up) Slowing down by making Rouble stronger since they only have around 300 billions USD and that have to last a while, that's the economic equivalent of rationing.

On the other hand, Russian economic activities is seriously hampered by sanction, because of the lack of material and lack of parts, a lot of Russian business have to close door. And the only thing Russia can get is money from selling oil and gas,. 1.) That's a 250 billion business, over a 1.4 trillion pre-war economy, that's not going to be enough to cover the entire economy. 2.) They can't convert foreign currency, so unless the contract are paid in rouble, those are equal to toilet paper if EU keep paying in Euros.

It's an illusion to say Russian Economic front is well. If you know people who live in Russia like I do, you know they will all tell you it's not great..

WASHINGTON — Four months into the war in Ukraine, the countries aligned against Russia face growing economic pain even as sanctions and energy embargoes are showing little impact on Russian President Vladimir V. Putin’s military campaign or his political standing at home.

U.S. officials vowed that Russia’s financial system would be battered if it attacked Ukraine, and President Biden boasted in March that sanctions were “crushing the Russian economy” and that “the ruble is reduced to rubble.” But Russian oil revenues have set records as crude prices surge. And after plunging in February, the ruble hit a seven-year high against the dollar this week.

Biden officials say Russia’s economy is nevertheless incurring damage that will compound over time, especially as restrictions on technology exports to Russia gradually stunt the growth of its industries from aerospace to computing. And on Thursday, a White House spokesman said that leaders of the Group of 7 industrial nations, set to begin meetings in Madrid on Sunday, will discuss new plans to further “tighten the screws” on Russia’s economy.

But it is unclear which side has more time to spare. The Ukrainian government says as many as 200 of its soldiers are being killed daily, and thousands of civilians have died as Russia seizes territory in eastern Ukraine. Mr. Putin continues to enjoy near-dictatorial power, and he is unlikely to enter serious peace talks with Ukraine while his military makes gains.

“Russia’s financial system is back to business as usual after a few weeks of severe bank runs,” Elina Ribakova, deputy chief economist at the Institute of International Finance, wrote on Twitter last week, adding that those who thought “that cutting Russia from financing for a few weeks at the beginning of the war would stop the war have proven naïve.”

Few if any Biden officials expected sanctions to halt the war immediately. But the administration and its European counterparts also did not expect the economic pressure they now are experiencing. Despite initial assurances that sanctions would not touch Russian energy exports, America has since banned imported Russian oil, and the European Union has announced plans to reduce its imports by 90 percent this year. Partly as a result of those actions, energy prices have surged in the U.S. and Europe, with regular gasoline averaging well above $5 per gallon in some states

“Sanctions are certainly not deterring Russian forces from the kind of military operation they’re carrying out,” said Alina Polyakova, president of the Center for European Policy Analysis.

Ukraine war is a blessing in disguise to replace Oil and gas with Electricity. US, EU and NATO countries are moving to full clean energy vehicles and appliances based on electricity.

“He who relies solely on warlike measures shall be exterminated; he who relies solely on peaceful measures shall perish.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
There is no such sentence in Sun Tzu's art of war. I don't think Sun Tzu ever invited you to revise Sun Tzu's art of war.

If you want to say that it is a translation problem, please tell me the Chinese of this sentence.

stop exaggerating and lying, some of their equipment is a bit older, but those are mostly the militias like DPR and LPR that are auxillary forces to Russian ground forces, but most of the Russian military is using decently modern military equipment.

can you show us a pattern of Russian military people using "WWII equipment"? its put up or shut up time, and no one time instances...its a large campaign even in its current size and Russia is using new equipment too, like kalibers, modern helicopters, tanks, etc. ur gonna hurt more when its obv Ukraine cant fight anymore - you left Ukraine to die and now you cant help, weak crap.
He should be referring to some Eastern Ukrainian militias using Mosin-Nagant Rifle.

That doesn't really mean anything. First of all, it is only the militia of eastern Ukraine. Second, even now, this kind of gun is still a very good precision weapon.

Your Sun Tzu could not defeat the Japanese. Only US nukes defeated Japan.
First of all, I will not mention the Korean War. Have you ever thought that the Chinese people have won for thousands of years, but only lost for less than a hundred years? In fact, it is nothing.

Who cares about the past what matters is current.

Today China is stronger than the US and the US is stronger than Russia.

To be fair, even though it did quite a bit of time for the US to pacify ISIL in Iraq, it did generally wrap up the Gulf war in around six months and the 2003 invasion in one month, even if that one just spiralled into a never-ending Catastrophe for the Iraqi people and the general people of the region.

But the fact is that Europe has begun to use coal.
Even the western media, which once boasted of gretathunberg, have been promoting the girl as a Russian spy.
Gretathunberg is likely to be a victim of the EU's return to coal.

BTW: I personally hope that Europe will turn to clean energy. Because most of the markets and patents of lithium batteries, photovoltaic and other commodities belong to China.

Ukraine was never a threat to Russia, and this conflict leads to Europe distancing itself from Russia.
Some have warned against Russia for decades, but they were ignored or made fun of. This has completely changed now. Europe is going to rearm and cut itself from any possible russian influence, and Russia will eventualy loose its status as a major energy export country because it needs western technology and knowhow to explore and operate its oil and gas fields.
It may take years, but thats Russias “strategic victory”.
At least the Russian LNG technology comes from CNPC. This is a project in China's b&r plan, called Yamal project (LNG). The project started in 2017, and CNPC provided technology and patents to novatech Corporation of Russia. China Silk Road Fund provides project funds. Total of France is responsible for EU affairs.
I don't know much about other technologies, but I don't believe that Russia has no relevant technologies.

US nukes defeated Japan. China did not. Russians only talk about nukes but NATO will not hesitate to use them. That is the difference.
The China theatre was the one tying down Jap forces and resources. Else, they would have reached India.

China has liquefaction technology but the yield is not as high as the world's best.

China financed the completing of Yamal because of sanctions, now owning 20%. It didnt rely on chineese technology.
Russia does have technologies, but Novatech is partly owned by french Total. Total provides some neccesary technology, knowhow and finance, and they have written off 4 billion dollars of its 20% ownership of Yamal and 10% in Arctic LNG 2 under construction, because the sanctions may prevent execution of Arctic LNG 2, and maybe could effect existing plants like Yamal.
Total is not the only company involved in Russian LNG projects. Germanys Linde and Siemens and french Technip are involved in the construction of production lines for Arctic LNG. South Korea is constructing icebreaking LNG carriers. They will hardly be delivered do to sanctions, and european ports denying russian ships entering their ports, means longer voyagers to the east - can its existing ships do that? I dont know.

True. While Pakistan & China were with the US & UK, Indians were supporting Japan.
Not sure about Indians supporting Japan but technically both were under the Brits. Without China tying down those forces, Japan would have alot of resources available, even with such superiority, only coastal third of China was successfully invaded, the inland provinces were still impregnable.
