MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Pacific Fleet Antisubmarine forces detected and stopped a foreign submarine near the Russian-Japanese maritime boundary, Kommersant reported Thursday.
“A foreign submarine was discovered in the north of the La Perouse Strait, where the Russian-Japanese border is. … After some time, the submarine quickly left the border area, having gone deep into neutral waters,” a high-ranking official from the General Staff of the Armed Forces told the Kommersant newspaper.
As soon as the submarine was detected on Wednesday, a number of ships and naval aviation units headed toward it for monitoring purposes. According to newspaper’s source, preliminary reports show the foreign vessel to be a Japanese Oyashio-class submarine. All information was immediately passed on to General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The Japanese Embassy in Russia failed to comment on the situation by the time of publishing, the newspaper wrote.
A similar incident took place on August 7, when Northern Fleet antisubmarine forces detected and forced away a Virginia-class US submarine in the Barents Sea.

. . .
so you wanna beef with everyone? Korea, china and now russia too?

You understand that the Kaijo Jeitai 's 4th Escort Fleet, alone, is double the size of the Russian Pacific Fleet. Qualitatively and Quantitatively outmatched, your forces are.

We do not consider Russia a naval , air threat.

Japanese submarines conduct naval patrol throughout the Japanese maritime domain. We do this with relative impunity.

. . . .
Nonsense. JMSDF submarines do not operate individually. Where 1 is detected, there are 5 more.Hidden.

;)

I'm curious to know how many Japanese subs operate in the region at the same time. A retired US Rear Admiral stated the US operates 17 subs in the region at all times. Here is a pic of the USS Hawaii at Yokosuka recently.

forced out?
like seriously what was they going to do if the sub stood it's ground?? destroy it, lol?

.
Russia getting surrounded militarily, followed by economic choking.

I wonder how many US nukes are stationed in Japan without Japanese knowhow plus all those nukes that the US Navy is armed with in that region.

why would U.S have nukes stationed in Japan or any country in the Pacific?
the SSBN on patrol have plenty of ICBMs and the range launch from any point on the world and hit it's mark if the need called for it.

.
we would also nuke your ships anyways

Don't be absurd, @senheiser . Don't become delusional in discourse with me.

There are any where from 5-6 submarines actively patrolling the northern territories near the Russian-Japan Neutral Zone.

This does not take into consideration the 4th Escort Fleet's Surface Ships. We are taking into consideration anywhere between 10 Destroyers, 5-6 Escort Destroyers, 1 Light carrier, 15 or so Minesweepers, anywhere between 5-6 Ocean Patrol Vehicles.

This is not considering the other 3 Escort Fleets that can be mobilized to address any threat; Russian, Chinese, Korean.

I wonder how many US nukes are stationed in Japan .....

Hundreds. The 7th Fleet , the largest of the US Navy's Fleets, is based in Japan.
