Russia has rejected the idea of providing China with a radar system suitable for fifth-generation stealth fighters like the Chengdu J-20, according to Kanwa Defense Review, a Chinese-language military magazine published in Canada.

China is currently testing the Type 1475 active electronically scanned array radar system designed for the still-in-development J-20 on the nose of a Tu-204 jetliner.

Yuri Guskov from Phazotron, Russia's largest military radar developer, said Russia is working to develop the ZHUK-AE active electronically scanned array radar system for its PAK FA fifth-generation stealth fighter, more commonly known as the T-50, at a rate much faster than China is proceeding.

While the ZHUK-AE radar is ready to be tested with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's Tejas fighter for the Indian Air Force, Yuri said a naval version of the radar had been designed earlier and has already been tested on a warship in waters off the Russian Far East.

Guskov said the development of the ZHUK radar system will be completed next year. He said however that Russia will not provide the ZHUK to China because of India's involvement in its development.

China is poised to obtain the IRBIS-E radar from Russia, however, as Moscow is very likely to sell Su-35K fourth-generation fighters to Beijing. All 20 IRBIS-E radars currently in service are used on the Su-35S fighters of the Russian Air Force.

Actually this news is confusing when did India started AESA cooperation with Russia???? Which Russian AESA is tested on Tejas ?????

The Chinese are themselves working on AESA. Infect some sources are claiming that J-11B carries AESA. If it is so why do China needs ZHUK-AE radar????

All in the news is India developed UTTAM AESA and is now will cooperate with Israel Elta on hybridization of AESA-2052.

Do the Russians pissed off with India???? As it seems that in near future India will not actually need Russian Assistance in Defense field.

You seem to be one of the few members who made a very important/correct point. But you shouldnt be confused though, Since India isnt cooperating with Russia on anyso called AESA Radar(India is cooperating with Israel, which is wayyyy more adavanced than any radar Russia can ever dream of producing for now).

Russia as I have been saying on here several times, is becoming more and more paranoid everyday (much like Putin himself. Lol). Do India members here remember how Russia was saying chinas sukhoi 27 will shoot dow India's rafale like birds? Is that not a mentality of a loser? Lol. Same with other news stupid news items they have been posting about Indias defence deals with the West/U.S/Israel.

Russia is simply getting desperate as it doesnt want to loose its lucrative defence deals with India and in a lesser extent China. So the more india moves closer to the west/U.S/Israel the more uneasy/paranoid Russia gets, since its scared of loosing its dollars from Indian market.

This news itself as you correctly pointed out is bullshit..Why would the Chinese even be procuring/buying Radars from Russia, which is one of the few areas in which they are strong/ahead of Russia in?lool Just shows how paranoid Russia is getting. Thanx for your reply. Actually anyone believe it or not a paradime shift is taking place. Russia was India's defence partner till some time ago.

But as the India started developing Fiscal and Financial muscle and at the same time Russians proved time and again fairly unreliable on quality of Military Hardwares and Parts.

And India itself setting self-reliance in producing its own hardware and defence industrial complex, India apart from very few critical technologies will not need much within 5 years time.

Critical developments in India can be understood that India refused technology of French Maitri Missile Defence Battery. The technology which India is looking for is of much better quality and fairly advanced in West then what Russia can provide.

But for some time to come India will keep engaged with Russia upto large extent because Russia has indeed helped India in critical Technology transfers and joint ventures.

Examples are BRAMOHS, Leasing Nerpa Class Nuclear Subs to India, Critical technology on Arihant Nuclear Class Subs, Development of PAK-FA.

This trend will continue in future India+Russia, India+USA, India+Israel and India+France, until India emerges as Military Hardware Power House.

P.S.: India is very much cooperating with Israel on AESA front see my remark. Hybridization of Elta 2052 is underway.

1) The author didnt know that PAK-FA is not going to be fitted with ZHUK ae radar but BARS aesa radar complex

2) THe author has fabricated another stuff from it's mind that LCA would be fitted with ZHUK ae radar rather if foreign
radar is going to be installed on LCA then that would be Israeli 2052 aesa radar not zhuk one .

So again Kanwa has succefully managed to waste peoples time by posting this crap article & make readers to read it
