Russia Weighing Ban on Car Imports From U.S., EU, Japan

I really hope they put the ban on auto imports. Japan would be crushed. Hopefully China too can put tariffs on Japanese car imports to further destroy the Japanese economy.

Perspective: Russia is the 7th or 8th largest car market in the world, at ~2.4 million cars per year. Most of Russia's "domestic" production is actually foreign companies operating joint ventures or their own plants in Russia. The market is in a very recent slump.

For comparison, the US is perhaps 15 million per year, and China perhaps 19 million per year (albeit, somewhat less pricey cars, for now).

The current speculation is that Russian production may take a serious hit due to some other concerns, so it is possible that Putin wants to try some protectionist stuff with the auto industry.

In any case, if joint ventures are not shut down, Russia would still be buying from the sanctioned countries, in effect. There just aren't any really solo Russian operations. Seizing them all would be interesting - that would really set off a serious trade war with Europe.

Nah. Land Rovers really aren't known for their efficiency. They're beautiful machines, but a pain in the gluteus maximus to maintain.
Well next time give a recent example, instead of some 8 9 years old car.

Russia can seize them and make them solo operations. Its not hard to kick out the foreign partner and give the domestic producer full control.

Russia can also take all the money the foreign company earns in Russian sales and transfer it to the Russian partner.

Chinese auto makers are going global and already set up auto plants in Russia.

The EU and Japan lose massive revenues directly and indirectly as their auto industry heavily contributes to the their economies.

China too has been trying to destroy foreign auto makers.

Auto industry is not a strategic industry so the foreigners can be squashed like rats.

TATA should get Jaguar and Land rover assembly in Russia. Loss of West must become India's gain.

As report says, Tata Motor's EBITDA margin is mainly driven by Jaguar and Land rover. Unfortunately for Russia, Tata Motors’s Jaguar Land Rover unit plans to start making cars in China instead by the end of this year. Local production in China will help the carmaker reduce prices by about 15 percent, and Chinese market is more promising than Russian's, we have more buyers, since the annual auto sale in China is to reach 22 million by the year end. And maybe the Jaguar XE model is designed to compete with Audi and VW, to grab a share of the lower end of the premium segment in Chinese market.

Putin needs to get off his Vodka. an actual war although highly unlikely, NATO could seriously damage Russia. Russia's only friend will be India. China has huge business interests in USA and Europe. I doubt India can challenge NATO militarily.

Ahahahah... Lmao. You DOUBT India can challenge the west militarily? Lool. INDIA won't even be able to defeat France alone, let alone the west/west NATO combined.
Anyway, you are dreaming if you think India will get into any conflict with us because of Russia. India doesn't have any beef/problem with us at all. And India now imports most of its weapons from us, and its increasing year by year. . So to think India will risk all these for Russia is laughable.

Stabbing US and EU again in the back. I think US should ban Indian H1 Visas too, if India violates sanctions.

Lool true talk my friend nihonji. India thinks it can play the double game for long. It can for now, but in a decade or two from now it won't be able to do it, it will have to choose where its priority lies.. I'm sure India knows partnering with the west/U.S will be better for them in the long run. They dont have any issues with us unlike Russia and China. Its just that they dont want to ally/partner with us this fast/early now, since they don't want to antagonize their old friend/patron Russia. Moreover they still get a lot of soviet era toys from Moscow. But as times passes by and we offer them more/better deals, they will surely come by our side. So no need to stop/ban india from HI visas for now:D:tup:

I don't know why Putin si acting soft when he can just show aggression and take Ukraine and finish the agony of his people and let the west do bla bla with their sanction .
just put some nuclear weapons all over the world e.g iran, syria and latin america and see how the world then react .

He is very smart player and have very good cards on table....

Typical russian bogus.

Most european car producers have already plants in russia. VW for example. Since those cars are build inside russia they are not affected from any sanctions. Only 6% of european cars are actually imported into the russian market.

There is a much bigger problem our car makers face in russia. The economic crash there. VW already halted production on several days a week there in the russian plant and plans to fire the workers there. Food price in russia did rise 20% last two weeks. Most russians simply cant afford a new car.

As the article here states: The kremlin fires back...and hits itself

last time China tried this, the EU crushed the chinese solar power industry like rats. The EU just installed such high import taxes on chinese solar cells, that the chinese corporations went down the drain.

Solar is crap anyway. It's not viable technology because cost > return. Maybe in 20 years that could change.
