Reports are emerging in media that India may place orders for 40 more Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets with Russia, but well-informed sources close to idrw.org informed that it is actually Russia which is pursuing India for additional orders while Indian Air force Chief has made it clear that IAF is not interested in placing additional orders over 272 ordered.
Last of the HAL assembled Su-30MKI at Nashik would be delivered to Indian Air force by 2018-19 two years beyond schedule which was initially set and HAL has been producing 12 aircraft per year on average and till date nearly 170 + have been delivered to IAF out of 222 which were to be built by HAL.
157 Indian vendors are involved in providing 13350 components of the aircraft and over 19450 components are manufactured at HAL’s Nasik and Koraput. HAL’s Nasik facility was gradually supposed to manufacture Indo-Russian 5th generation FGFA after production of Sukhoi-30 ends but due to delays in executing FGFA program due to serious differences with Russia.
South Block is under pressure to order 40 more Su-30s from both Internally and externally agencies to avoid keeping production line idle and to help Russian companies with additional orders who had pretty bad last year in Sukhoi export sales.
Russia wants India to order 40 more Sukhoi 30 MKI, But Indian Air Force says ” No can do “
