There will be considerable damage to Russian economy till a new balance is found, and in economic warfare, whoever takes the first shot, usually wins. If Russia had gone China / India way, bit their tongue for sometime, and worked on an alternative system, and then gone for Ukraine, it would have worked. However, Putin being a short-sighted, self absorbed dimwit, in all probability, took Russia down the economic black-hole.

Time will tell. This, however, remains my personal point of view.

Russia provides the most important thing for China, energy security. China don't need to worry about Malacca dilemma with energy from Russia. Russia is also a major geopolitical ally for China in countering Yankee fascism.

Russia provides energy, raw materials, agriculture, technical expertise in many technological areas, space technology, weapons knowhow, big market for Chinese companies, big manufacturing destination to export to Europe, etc.
